Freedom Cycle
« on: June 13, 2006, 09:10:15 PM »

Received my Freedom package last week with the pipes, air kit and Power Commander.  Spent all day Friday doing the install.  Had a few fitment problems but a couple of calls to Freedom helped solve them.  Installation was not as easy as I had anticipated.  Instructions could have been better.

I like the way the bike runs and the way the true duals look, but dang, these pipes are loud.  I have had several friends listen and ride my bike and they all agree that these pipes are about as loud as they have ever heard.  Much louder than any Rineharts I've heard.  And when I've riden someone else's bike behind mine they seem to have a real tinny or metalic sound.  They also have a raspy sound when you crank the throttle when stopped.

My biggest problem with the stock pipes prior to this install was the heat off the real cylinder.  In fact when I took off the stock pipes the header pipe coming out of the rear was totally blue.  With the Freedom pipes the heat is a non-issue.  So one problem solved but a new one created with the loudness of the Freedom pipes.

Of all the posts I have read on this forum about the Freedom pipes I don't recall anyone complaining about the noise.  Just wondering what all you guys that have the Freedom's think.

I have been talking to Brad at Freedom and these guys are a class act.  He has offered to take the whole package back and refund my entire purchase price.  Or, he asked me to send him the mufflers and he will see what he can do to quiet them down and send them back.  I'm in quite a quandry on what to do.  If I go back to my stock pipes and setup I will have the heat to contend with.  But I can't put up with the sound of these pipes as they are now.

Just wondering if any of you Freedom guys have any thoughts on this.

Thanks,

DakotaZeb

I had Brad install the pipes, cam, power commander, and dyno tune it at his place in Reno. I agree the pipes are a little loud but they sound like a really fine tuned machine. I like them, more important I love the torque the bike has now. The 09 cam is perfect for long trips, wife, bags etc. but still plenty of power.

I agree that they are loud and also agree with sanjoseduke. I don't mind so much most of the time when I'm on open roads or around town. There are times though where you're closed in maybe by a canyon wall or something and these suckers will start to resonate. The vibration in your ear drums gets really bad. A friend of mine I've ridden with recently has a Road King with no tach. He stays back because he can't hear when to shift.
Scot(cuthbertss) was over the other day. His reaction when I started the bike was "Holly Ch!t".

Hey George, I have the same Freedom install and love it [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].  My advice: TURN UP THE VOLUME ON YOUR STEREO [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Yep, there loud. I love mine!! Side by side with Reinharts they are very close. The Freedoms are a bit deeper but overall the same volume. As Canuck said ....crank up the stereo 8-)

I'll stick with my Thunderheaders.  They're torque machines, but the are louder than the Freedoms...

George, sorry to hear about your loud exhaust noise issue - least you can now be cooler while riding.

I've had Screaming Eagle, Sampson, Rinehart and now Freedom Exhaust - I like the Freedom exhaust the best as it sounds and runs AWESOME

I know and understand hearing issues are different for everyone (what he say?) but I honestly think the Freedom exhaust isn't any louder than Thunderheaders, Rinehart or V&H. maybe when your hard into the throttle the Freedom is loud but at riding speeds I have no issues with listening to XM Radio channel 49 at medium volume, yeah I switched to 49 from 46 both are good 70's/80's Rock & Roll.

LOL....my best memories of Yosemite National Park is when about 15 Harley's went through the long tunnel and we lite it up...what a rush as it got so loud and it felt like the tunnel was funneling in but you knew you couldn't let off the throttle or you may get ran over from the Harley behind you.

LOL....Loud Pipes Save Lives, if I am out riding and I notice a car not paying attention (talking on cell phone, reading or doing the makeup thing) I will crack my throttle and get the attention of the driver.

I wonder if I didn't get some bad pipes.  Not only are they loud they sound like chit.  Raspy and tinny.  I'll call Brad again today.  But I think I will still pull them off and return them.  Turning up the stereo is NOT an option.

This is kind of a dumb question but are the baffels installed? These pipes are anything but raspy and tinny.

Hmmmm..... like a carbon copy of my rection to the noise of the Rineharts I installed this weekend!  :(

And that description you give of the Freedoms is a good fit for the noise of the Rineharts too - I can't imagine any way that the Freedoms COULD be louder than the Rineharts though.

They are way too noisy for me, though I like noisy pipes, and turning up my stereo isn't an option either. I'd like to ride many thousands of miles on my bike and have my hearing survive!

I have the freedoms, love em, and I dont think they're louder than the rineharts. Riding freinds all have said they like the sound too, they bark when I get on it but normal riding, I'd say they arent even close to the annoying noise the rineharts make. No offense to rinehart owners.

Haven't heard the Freedoms yet.  But the Rineharts are definitely way, way too loud for me and I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear in the other.  Seriously I wear a hearing aid in the right ear (not when riding) and they tell me I really need one in the left ear also (vanity just won't let me go there quite yet).  But the Rineharts and of course Thunderheaders are just uncomfortably loud for me.  The Screamin' Eagle Pro Performance slip-ons I have are plenty loud enough for me and the Mrs.

I agree the screaming eagle pro performance mufflers are just right. They sound good but not so loud you can't hear the radio. The wife thinks they have gotten a little louder since I first installed. I guess they have gotten broken now but they sound good to me. From what I have been told you can no longer get the screaming eagle mufflers from Harley they quit selling them. I have a friend who bought a softtail this weekend at Tilleys in NC and wanted to put some on his bike and he was told "we have them in stock but are no longer aloud to sell them, but we can put some Vance & Hines on for you" [smiley=confused5.gif]
