Close to 3k Miles in Five Weeks!
« on: September 18, 2011, 08:45:34 PM »

Yep, been riding the @#*% out of this bike! Put in a couple of 350 mile days last week with no issues. I am so impressed with the ride with the fixed fairing...especially at highway speeds.

Plus...unlike many of you...the stock seat is probably the most comfortable I have had on a Harley.

Jerry,
I thought it was just me, thinking that about the stock seat.  I think it's the most comfortable that the MoCo has ever come out with.  I've no intentions of changing it out.

Yep...I was surprised. Since I don't have to shell out $$$ for another seat...I can use it for something else.  ;)

Jerry,  So far I'm finding the stock seat to be comfortable for me.  Time will tell as to whether it starts to collapse.  However, my BSR does not find it comfortable, so had to order her a AirHawk cushion.  We'll see how that does for her on the ride up to MV Wednesday.  I sat on the AirHawk...have to admit it feels pretty darn good.

I agree with the stock seat. I told my mechanic that I wanted to lower the RG about an inch and changing the seat out wasn't an option. I put a HD reach seat on my '07 RG and then had a tempurpedic seat cushion installed.  That was a nice seat with the improvements but I like the stock '11 a little better.

The only seat I have used that was better than this stock seat was the big buddy seat on the pogo stick on my '69 dresser and that might just be in my fogged up mind.

Regarding the stock seat...I've come to accept my arse has a time limit. ;) I can go the first 2 hours without much problem. After that...I need to stop about once every hour and get off.

I've tried a number of seats...even spent a bunch of $$$ to modify a H-D Sundowner seat which I really liked...and never got any noticeable difference in comfort.

You owe it to yourself to at least try an AirHawk seat pad. Have one I use for rider longer than 500 miles in a day and it makes a huge difference. I'm riding a Wide Glide so my ride isn't nearly as nice as yours. Try one out, I think you would be pleasantly surprised.

Fair play. I have mine only 2 weeks, and have only managed 650K so far, work and foul weather got in the way. Love the brute. Fixed fairing is super, handling is light, goes great, stops everyone that sees it....perfection on wheels and I agree with you on the seat. I have had two Road Zeppelin seats on the last two Electra Glides, one a 2007 and the other a 2010 FLHTK. They were absolutely fantastic seats for long runs, the older version being much better than the later model.

This bike, I think I'll hang on to the stock seat as it is, so far, very comfy and my lovely wife adores her heated backside. Perhaps next summer on my solo trip to Europe I might swap over for the Road Zep again as I find the stock seat about an inch too low...but I'll put the stock seat back on again afterwards. (Keeps momma happy.)

After riding Indians for the past 8 yrs, my wife convinced me to get a 2011 Ultra Road Glide CVO...this is the very first complete bike I've ever owned. We've been to SC and made a trip to FLA in just a few short weeks...over 5000 miles traveled and it just keeps getting better....the only bad thing I can say is the bike has a high center (or I have really short legs) with a rider it fits real good...and the heat coming from the pipes did blister my right leg on the SC trip....learned not to put the rain cover on while riding..ouch!!!

I'm going to have to agree with you, Jerry.  I think my butt comfort is directly related to my age...the older I get, the more frequently I need to get off and stretch my legs, take a wizz, and let my azz get a "breather".  When I was 22 years old, I could sit on a hardtail with a 2" piece of foam between my butt and the frame.  Now, after that initial 2-3 hours in the saddle, I have to get off every 1.5 hours or so.

Update: Over 4k miles now! Got in a personal best on Sunday...probably 450 miles. The cooler temps...and the fact I have lost about 85 pounds translate into plenty of comfort with the stock seat. If I had logged this many miles in one day on one of my Electra Glides...I would have died! :'(

I hope the 'Batwing Boys' never wise up. That means more 'Sharknoses' for us smart guys. :2vrolijk_21:
