Orange peel on 2010 CUSE
« on: September 18, 2011, 10:10:30 PM »

I've been looking to trade up to a newer bike but not a "new" bike. Looked at an 2009 Ultra Classic today, Stardust Silver/Twilight blue, and noticed it had a lot of orange peel in the paint on the fairing and some on the tank. Never noticed it that much on a CVO before, made me wonder if it had been re-painted. Anybody had this condition on the paint on the fairing? It wouldn't be so noticeable elsewhere but on the fairing it stuck out like a sore thumb. This bike had 8800 miles on it and looked great aside from the paint flaws and the $33K price tag.

Brand new 2011.5 SEUC has alot of orange peel on the rear of the saddle bags. I should have said something when I purchased but I did not. :nixweiss:

I think it is perfectly acceptable to ask if the bike has been repainted.
If the owner says no, I would probably believe it is just poor paint from the factory.  There are plenty of examples of factory orange peel.
The first orange/black 09 RG CVO I saw in a dealership was so bad with orange peel I couldn't believe the dealer even accepted it.
Honestly it looked like they used a roller....ok maybe not that bad :huepfenlol2:

I did ask about whether it had been repainted, the salesman (it was at a dealership) said it had not. I may be too much of a cynic but I have a built in mistrust for what salesmen tell me! Another concern was the fairing wind deflectors had been taken off. Ran a VIN check but nothing showed up so it may just be bad factory paint. I'll keep looking, can't get too excited about a bike at that price that has such noticeable paint issues.

If there is red flags popping up in your head, trust your instincts.  Will they give you a phone number for the owner?
