Nolan N43 Trilogy
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:59:34 AM »

Anyone got this helmet & if so how do you find it ? Idea of being able to change from full face to open helmet seems a very good idea, but would be good to get info from anyone that has one, thanks, Paul.

Paul, my wife has several Nolan N-Com helmets but by far, the N-43 is her favorite.  Lighter weight and she says it doesn't cause that claustraphobic feeling even thought she wears it with the chin bar in place (you can wear it with or without the chin bar and it's very easy to remove or install).

Several other members of the Nor Cal group have the N-43 Trilogy also.  Personally, I've stayed with my N-103.....just not an issue for me and I love the warmth in the winter time. :2vrolijk_21:

My girlfriend wears this one.  She likes that the chin bar can be removed and that it is very light.  She had some issues with hers though.  It leaked in the rain and the neck piece kept coming loose.  Also, the glue that attaches the pad on the chin bar failed.  We sent the helmet back to the Nolan distributor recently and they replaced the weather seal as well as the inner liner and neck piece.  haven't ridden in the rain so we don't know if it stays dry now...

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated  :cucumber:
Good to hear some positives, interesting about the leaking in the rain though, however sounds like a big improvement on an open face helmet which I wear, but having moved over to a bagger I'm doing more longer trips & although short distances in the rain are ok with an open face, it would be good to be able to convert to a full face if & when req.
Thanks again guys, Paul.

Another one to look at is the Shark Evoline 2...it will likely be my next helmet purchase.

That was my first choice, really like it but unfortunately they only go up to XL & I need XXL, tried the XL but although I could get it on it was just too tight.

Paul, I have the "Air' version of the N-43, is sold over seas only, very comfortable and with this version there is air vent on the the top with a manually operated closure, air flow on this helmet is great, if you decide on the N-43 or N-43 air make sure you purchase the pinlock shield, the face shield that comes with the helmet has the pins already installed - the pinlock shield is sold separately. Those pinlock shield inserts are excellent -rode 5 hours in pouring rain on the turnpike from upstate NY to DE and the face shield never fogged up.

Thanks for all the input on this, well have ordered the black-grey motorrad, can't believe I could not get one in the UK, was told by stockist here that they could not order an XXL, so after searching the Internet I found one in Germany that is now on it's way by DHL  :cucumber:

I recently bought 2 of these helmets for me and my wife. So far, I really like the helmet - it's comfortable, seems well made, and I love the flexibility of removing the chinbar and/or visor. I also bought the J&M 629 corded communication systems which are made for the Nolan helmets. Everything fit perfectly and it works well.

My only complaint is the spacing between my chin and the inside of the chin bar - there isn't very much of it. This also makes for a tight squeeze when putting the helmet on with the chin bar attached, so I've been removing it prior to putting it on.

I seriously considered the Air model because of it's top vent, but these have to be ordered and shipped from Europe. I couldn't find any U.S. dealers.

I have recently logged 6000 miles using the Nolan N43 Trilogy. Mountain peaks to desert to everything in between. Rain, fog, high winds and temps from 104 to low 40's. Conclusion: rates a solid 10. Bought it from J&M with their mike & earphones installed (10 % CVO discount) . Love the flexability of full face shield, or open with chin bar, or 3/4 open with removable visor and the neat internal flip down sun shield. The full face arrangement with the added "pinlock"  second inner shield (not included, $25 additional), provided the best fog free, rainy weather performance I've ever experienced. I think my new 7" Freedomshield windshield also helped in diverting a lot of the rain away from the helmet.
Helmet is lightweight, well ventilated and has no blind spots when looking to the rear. It's a keeper. Just ordered one for my wife.

Good review! Been using a Nolan N-42 for 3 yrs or so now, it's been a good one. Might be time for the upgrade, especially with the flip down internal sun shield. your pic above reminded me of another image.

Trimster,
Funny you should refer to that photo of Clint Eastwood at the controls. The first time I stopped at my son's house wearing this helmet, he looked at me and said "Pop, all you need now are a couple of heat seeking missiles on your crash bars and you'll be all set!" :2cr_01:
