seuc4 intermittent garage door opener
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:50:17 PM »

Installed garage door opener works very intermittently when double clicking the headlight switch.  Some times it works on the first or second click,, some times on the sixth or eighth click, and some times not at all. I've tried going from high to low to high, and low to high to low - no difference.  I also have the pulsing headlight.  I don't know if this is causing any interference.  Would relocating the garage receiver make any difference.  Any sugestions? ----------------------- I relocated the receiver to the front of the garage door opening and covered the day night sensor to put the headlight into a non flashing mode.  The door still only opens or closes intermittently - approximately every forth to sixth time.  Also the wall switch is just a basic touch pad.

My guess is the pulsating headlight is your issue.

You can even move the receiver outside temporarily to eliminate the question of interference. I have my receiver on the outside wall next to the door and it works 200' away. Low-Hi-Low only.

I (If it was me) would relocate the reciever to as close to the Garage door opening as you can. Start there, then see if the head light is your problem
I originally mounted mine very close to the opener and tied in the electrical there.  Would not work at all.  Then I moved it nearer the push button mounted on the wall and tied in the electrical there.  Works fine there.  When I originally installed my in '06 there was a note that mounting it too close to the opener could cause interference.  Don't know about the newer ones if that is still the case or not.   :nixweiss:

Mine worked fine until I had to change out the opener
got a new Sears 3/4 with the digital LED switch,

I can hear the HD unit click when I flip the Hi/Lo,
but the door doesn't move...  heard they
changed the signal to the unit, I've checked
the wires, it has moved the door once or twice
then it stops working, however the unit is receiving
the signal...

When in doubt, use an extension cord to power the receiver and try moving it to various places in the garage to see if there is any difference.  Many times it is necessary to maximize the distance from the actual garage door opener to the H-D receiver.  If that doesn't help, then try disconnecting the headlight modulator and running the headlight in stock mode.  If that turns out to be the problem, you may still be able to come up with a workaround by wiring the modulator into the system differently. :nixweiss:

Someone else recently posted about this sort of problem with a new opener with a fancy electronic control panel on the wall.  Replacing the control panel with a simple generic button fixed his.
