2008 Road King CVO
« on: September 22, 2011, 06:38:52 PM »

My 2008 Road King 18,000 klms has just had its 3d starter clutch installed, anybody else going through this kind of problem? The bike has started hard right from new, dealer says nothing wrong, 110's are hard on starters. does not make sense to me.

Welcome  :2vrolijk_21: I have a 2007 flhrse3 with 31000 miles (45000 klm) on her and original starter. I think I would be going to a different dealer to get it fixed right.

Do you know if the ACRs (automatic compression release valve) are working?  I have heard of these not working, creating a lot of extra stress on the starter

My 2008 SERK has only 14,000 miles on her and already has had the starter clutch recently replaced and now seems to struggle a bit when starting. I think that the ACRs may be having an issue, but don't feel like tearing the motor apart during riding season.

another common problem as been the compensator.  It has been upgraded and now the new screamin eagle compensator is standard on all touring bikes

Close to 58,000 miles on my 08 SERK.  Original starter was replaced around 20K miles.  I had to replace a stripped clutch hub so I put in the SE compensator along with a stronger clutch and the VP-92.

I used the same set up SADUNBAR recommended which is the BDL clutch with the VP92T. You can Goggle both companies and find out the particulars, all the info you need is easy to understand and install.  Make sure you check the needle bearings in the clutch hub.  If you don't get rough with the bike you won't need the VP92T.  Also make sure you change all the gaskets required, some have chose to forgo the gaskets only to have regrets later on.

Good Luck
