Heat Demons Installed
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:01:01 PM »

Installed heat demons on my 2009 FLHTCUSE4 last week.  Great product and a huge difference over the Harley grips.  I thought the install was a pain the a$$ due to the internally wired bars and had to remove the bars and get the throttle side reamed.  Sorry, I did not take pictures.

Yeah, they are on the list to replce the dead HD chit, but the wiring has got to be a real bear.

Magloo...on the '06 SEUC, it's not bad.  Is that the bike you're talking about?  If you pull the radio out, you can get to the center hole in the bars and fish the wires in that way.  They used to furnish a flat plastic fish tape that worked pretty well, IMO.

Yep, the '06. That sounds more encouraging, but I'm guessing the reostat at the end of the left grip won't work anymore?  Did you go with the handlebar mounted controller?  I like the Harley control alot better, which is less clunky.  Will I have to get new grips too?

It was weird that last summer they didn't work, but come winter, they did? Then when I took it out of hibernation in the spring, they stopped working again. I've been praying they decide to work again, so I don't have to mess with it.  Seems every time I open those handlebar controls, it turns into a nightmare.

A How-To walk through would be golden!

Nope...left grip dial won't do chit anymore, and you do have to replace both grips with the regular model (they make the same grip in a non-heated version, if you like that style...they worked for me, as they are somewhat smaller in diameter than some of the other grips out there).  It's really not a bad job.  Get the Chrome Heat Demon controller...it looks like it grew there after you get it on.  LED lights to indicate what level of heat, and easy to operate.  Works like a champ.   :2vrolijk_21:  There's a couple of old threads from back in '07 on here somewhere about installing them.  If you need help, there's lots of us who did it on the older bikes.  Piece of cake if you hold your mouth right... :huepfenlol2:  I'll bet somebody like d00d, who's better at search, and find the old thread...if not, let me know and I'll try and remember if you run into any issues.

So let me get this straight.

You have to buy the left side, separately from the right side. And these are $149 each. So that's $300. then you got to buy new grips too, for another $80 for a total of almost $400?  Jeez, that's getting pretty pricy! I called the dealer and they want 3 bills to do the install? WTH?

Also, do you have to drill the holes I'm reading about, or can you just use the holes from the stock grips?

Rebecca at tri-county beat that price...a great deal esp if you order more stuff from her to offset the $10 shipping charge.

Thanks. Now just have to figure out how to remove all of the J&M amp stuff and relocation kit without making a mess. the other think I just remembered, I have a Riders Claw on the left clamp and a ball mount on the right clamp for the Valentine 1.  I wonder if they offer a different controller so I don't have to acve one of these?  I'll check their site.
