Faded speaker grills on 2011 SESG
« on: September 29, 2011, 04:51:46 PM »

Has anybody had problems with the speaker grills fading? All of mine have faded. I took the scoot to the local dealer. He suggested leaving it for a couple hours so they could repaint. I said not.

Thanks. I thought I saw some chatter on it a while back but couldn't remember.

Mine faded (actually scale not fading paint; if you scratch with your fingernail the white faded part flakes off). The dealer ordered new grills and speakers. They are on backorder until at least 10/5 they told me. I have been waiting on mine since I got back from Sturgis.

Ditto on the grills.  Our dealer has replacements on order.   Chatted with other riders with the same problem.  Seems like a 50/50 chance of having them.  My husband's 2011 grills were ok.  He's since traded the bike.   Always something!

My left faring speaker grill is starting to fade. You can see the silver of the steel in bloches....ish.

Here I go again. :(

I re-painted mine with a Sharpie... Looks great and has held up well.

Same on mine but I haven't brought it to the dealer yet.  The sharpie idea sounds like a good plan.

On the faded speaker grills its not so much faded as it is a scale most of the time you can take your finger nail and scrape it pretty hard and the scale will brake away.

That's exactly what it is on mine as well...but seems to be only on the two speakers in the lowers.  Any idea what it is? A clear coat or something?

I think when the Chinese start using a better grade paint the issue will be resolved. :nixweiss:
