Any idea on installing a speaker switch?
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:27:50 PM »

On of the things I miss is the (Ultra's) ability to switch off the speakers and use my headset. Anybody figure that out yet?

I have the switch but no wiring instructions.

Thanks

These are the wire assignments for the speaker switch for insertion into the quick disconnect connector under the fairing cap:

Orange/Blue--chamber 9
Violet/Orange--chamber 10
Brown/Orange--chamber 11
Black/Green--To Cruise Switch if equipped or chamber 12

You'll also need the wiring/receptacle for the rider headset.  I'm not familiar enough with the wiring on your bike to offer specific advice for your project.  An approach that's worked for me doing non-standard wiring mods has been to replicate the wiring of a model that has what I want on my bike.  In your case, replicate the wiring for the rider headset and speaker switch found on an Ultra.

I'd also suggest you contact Tony at Iron Cross Audio.  It may be that the CAN + and - pinouts of the HK radio activate the speaker switch circuit when a CB module is present, but the speaker switch circuit is not active w/o the CB module present.  The CAN buss wiring tells the HK that the CB module is installed.

Interesting project; good luck.

Talked with Tony. What a great resource! He'll set up the radio with an audio out and switch inputs that I can run to the dash. The unit will default to headset mode when selected. $125 and two days.

Tony's great; let us know how your project goes.

Tony repaired my HK head unit and added an AUX on the back of the head unit a couple of years ago, and I'll be sending it back to him for pre-amp outputs since I'm adding another four speakers and a second four-channel amp.
