dyno tuning
« on: June 16, 2006, 11:56:31 AM »

Is it worth getting SE12 dyno tuned. I went to a D&D 2 into one exhaust. The bike runs fine, but the dealer says it will run better if i put it on their Dyno. Is this true? Ted

Ted;
 What do you mean by SE12? The short answer is yes. I have to assume however that you have a Race tuner, PCIII, or other fuel managment device.

Sorry. It's a stock FLHRSEI2 except for the change in exhaust. No race tuner. What do you suggest?

Spending money on the dyno without a fuel management device is a waste because you can't tune the motor. I would talk to the dyno guy that you trust and find out what they use and are comfortable with. The PCIII and Race tuner do basically the same thing and the same results can be had with either. Before talking to your dyno guy read this thread and educate yourself on dyno tuning:

Its a long read but knowledge is power. There are a bunch of "shady" operators out there that are more than happy to take you money.

change out the air cleaner and breather set-up, and do the stage 1 download.
see how it runs from there.
if you don't have a tuning device, the dyno won't do chit.

Well I will say my .02 is do the air cleaner,Stage 2 flash (a good backup to your PCIII or sert should it fail)a PCIII or SERT and a good set of pipes and then off to the dyno.I did all that and I'm very pleased with the throttle response and power i have now.  Later,Q

To All,

Here is an example of a "Dyno Run" and some one who know how to tune a bike.

I am posting the DYNO Sheets in the Twin Cam Section.

I wish that I could give more technical info, but I can't so don't expect much.  I'll just give you the benefit of my experience.  I recently went to the D & D Fatcats and a K & N high flow filter.  I put the HD SERT on the bike because I was told that the best guy in the shop at my local HD dealer liked working with the SERT.  My dyno results are posted elsewhere, but I got over 101 on the HP and torque with no other mods to the bike ('06 CUSE).  I'd recommend the guy that worked on my bike and if you want the info, send me a PM, but I guess that it's not only getting a good dyno guy.  You've got to give him the equipment that he knows how to work with for the best results.
