A few things about my '07 Ultra.
« on: September 30, 2011, 08:28:36 PM »

I've been doing an awefull amount of reading on this site and have learned a lot about these bikes.  You guys are true gearheads and I can tell I'm going to like it here.

The bike I purchased in August had all of the scheduled maintenance on time, and all recalls or service campaigns performed, thank God.  This means the heads were replaced and bike retuned when this bike was around a year and a half old.  Hopefully any malfunctions in the motor or drivetrain would have been found upon inspection and dealt with back in 2008.

With that said, is it enough?  Or do I need to do more to have this machine be reliable?  I'm not looking to make it too custom, but reliable and befitting power of an 1800 cc bike would be the order of the day. So far, it's a hoot to ride!  Every day since bringing her home...

TGIF Guys and thanks for all the great work done to help us maintain our bikes!  This site rocks!!!! :drink: I toast you all!  :drink:

Eagleye07, Good looking bike congrats. If it is running good and getting good mileage I would say leave it alone.(based on past experience) CAHDBIKER

The bike looks good.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

thats a good way to have your bike do a wheelie

nice looking if you get hooked on beefing it up it will never end

don't ask how I know and there is no cure for it. It's like putting a carrot on a stick in front of a horse it will keep on chasing it and never get it

I recently did the 30T conversion on my '07 and can say it made more difference in the rideability and enjoyment of the bike than I could have imagined.  The stock gearing on the '07s and '08s is not good when riding solo but two up loaded (I often pull a Bushtec) it is horrendous.  If you plan to keep the bike that is one mod I would definitely recommend.

Yeah, that was my plan also.  But they had to go in a replace the compensator (for the second time so I ponied up for the SE version) and with right at 80k on it I figured it was time for new swing are bearings so I convinced myself to go ahead since they were into the primary anyway that would save on some of the labor charge.  Not a cheap mod but all things considered well worth it.

This may be a dumb "Newbie" question.  Why the heck didn't MoCo put the SE compensator into what is supposed to be a complete SE package to begin with?  Just wondering.  The answer may not be out there, because it seems they didn't quite go 'all the way', if ya know what I mean... :coolblue:

That is assuming the "SE" stands for Screamin' Eagle...

Don't think that part was available back then.  Besides, HD let the customer do all the quality control testing on the '07's.  They all mostly got fixed, but a lot of people experienced a nightmare when those first hit the streets.

You're right there. However my original comp in my '07 lasted just as long (30K ea.) as my second one (the first release of the SE comp). We'll see how long the new version (A) lasts which I just had replaced a couple thousand miles ago.

Great looking bike and choice of Colors...Ha
I am partial can't you tell!

Just like the others have said in the thread, just ride the heck out of
the bike for now and get a few miles on it.  Then make some mental
notes on what you would like to improve on the performance and
handling and make the list for Santa!!!
Then come back to this site and see what alot of us have done to our
bikes and you will be happy.

Have fun riding that bike!
