CVO FLHRSE4 Rear Air Shock Pressure
« on: October 06, 2011, 05:33:58 PM »

Curious to learn what other CVO FLHRSE4 owners are running in terms of their rear air shock pressure settings. Max according to my dealer is 50 PSI, I'm running 40 now, just up'd it from 36 psi, but curious to know what others are using as their inflation/pressure settings...I typically ride solo and prefer a smooth ride but do need good control in the turns.

seems very high compared to what's in the manual

Rider (160-200lbs): 0-10psi
Rider 200lbs+:  5-10psi
Rider+Pass up to 150lbs: 20-30psi
Rider+Pass over 150lbs:  25-35psi

it's definitely a little too high  ::)

Don't confuse the numbers for pre 09 shocks as quoted by JKM with those higher numbers for the 09 up models, up to 50 as the dealer told elixer, ignoring that Elixer has a 08 model.

I have a 07 FLHRSE3, Solo i run 34/35, two up 38, I have been up and down the scale this seems to give me the best ride and handling. I have a King Tour Pak on the back so thats a little added weight over stock.  :nixweiss:

Zero !??? I put the Progressive 940 on my '08 FLHR and love them, but before then I would 35 psi solo and 42 psi two up. I weigh in at 165 lbs. and my bride in at 1^&#@, I'm not saying, but 42 psi did fine.

I think that's going to be my next project is installing the 940's, You say they really help? Both ride and handling? I get tried of checking the air pressure eveytime we go riding and the longer the ride the worse these air shocks seem to get.

The highest I've ever had mine is 28. I weigh 225 and I'm usually hauling my wife (135) and that setting works well for me.

We hit a big pothole a few weeks ago and I was surprised the shocks didn't come up through the seat. After that, I was feeling the effect of minor bumps in the road. When I checked my pressure a week later, they were down to 20 lbs. I need to check them again this week to make sure they're not leaking.

Ambient air temps can also change air pressure in the shocks...not significant changes, but changes nonetheless.

Yes SERK3, I have had no problems with them, good ride and handling. All I do when it's two up is put about one turn on them, then I take it out for solo. It does drop the ride height in the rear about a inch, but I have had no problems with bottoming out or scraping in hard turns. I like the look of the coil over shock (that you can see on a Roadking) between the saddle bags. Would not be as noticeable on yours, with the tour pack.

Ron, You have a 08 SERK, Right??? And you say it dropped it 1", didn't think it was suppose to do that, If it does that sounds great to me i could use it a inch lower.
You really got me interested in them now, Guess it will be a winter time project since i just changed the exhaust system for the third time about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for the info.  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

I was under the impression that the SERK was already lowered 1" from the factory...please correct me if I'm wrong.  If so...the Progressive site says that the 940's are a 13" eye to eye shock (a lowered from the factory HD has 12" rear shocks), but allows a 1" lower stance in the rear while maintaining full travel.   :nixweiss: :nixweiss:  Unless Progressive has figured out a way to violate the laws of physics, I don't understand how that is possible...if you have a 13" shock, and it automatically sags 1" without any additional weight on the bike, it becomes a 12" shock eye to eye.  How can they claim the same amount of compression travel with the shock actually mounted on the bike?  The rebound travel would be full stroke, but the first 1" of compression travel is basically non-existant from a functional standpoint.  Their verbiage make no logical sense.

I would not count on the shock lowering the bike an additional inch if your bike has 12" shocks eye to eye already.

I'm not concerned if it lowers the bike or not, If it does great, If not no big deal, just trying to get a better ride than the HD air shocks.

I have the 940s on my FLHRSE4 and they are great, road from VA to Sturgis and back, love them.  They do not drop the bike any lower and maintain nearly the same ride height, up just under 1/4".  Dampening is the key with these shocks, far superior than the stock crap that was on the back.  Also added the monotubes from Progressive, which straightened out the stock crap in the front,  ;)

Oh, when I did have air, 18lbs solo, 25lbs 2 up, I way 220lbs.
