Heavy handed moves again
« on: October 06, 2011, 10:21:34 PM »

Not coming on everyday I guess I miss some of the pulled stuff -  :bobby2:
Just what number of posts are deleted each day?

Do we have a "ask the member first policy yet, e.g ask the member to consider removing  a post for a "violation".
And even though there may be some posting that goes over the top, still no reason to shut down a thread.

"So it's not misconstrued I'm not taking anyone's side other then the owner of this site and what he has created and what it has grown into."
And I really can't believe the owner's side is to shut it down. It is not a private group anymore, and hasn't been since the day donations were accepted.

And really feel silly, waiting to make sure I can make a post that won't be pulled in 2 minutes.

policys are what they have been for years.
i'd say most days nothing gets "pulled"
do threads get locked, yes they do sometimes.

you are welcome to the opinion that nothing should ever be locked
my opinion is anyone who says there is never a reason for locking a thread has never run an internet forum

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the comment that was posted was what it was. Was it getting out of hand, probably, was it anymore then a bit of chest thumping, maybe.
Should it have been taken to Pm, as is the policy yes.
If the party's are asked to remove the posts and they don't, and are truly offensive, then you do what has to be done.
But there wasn't a reason to lock it out.

And I did not suggest that there is never a reason, just that sometimes we jump the gun a bit.

And no I never did run an internet forum, but I am a moderator on a "professional" firefighter forum, so I do have a little bit of an idea.
And I used to quotes to be a bit facetious.

When I saw the title, I figured it was a thread about Duane getting on the throttle and carving up the twisties.

 :o      :cherry:

Now it is motorcycle related.

Fine line here. Just because I choose to donate to something doesn't necessarily indicate I am an owner in what I donate to or that by donating I get a say in what goes on. I donate to support the forum after having read the rules of the road. If I don't like the rules, I don't have to donate. Asking for and receiving funds is not an indication of a willingness to cede control. I own stock in a lot of companies. Doesn't give me a right to set policy at those companies. If I don't like what they are doing, my option is to sell their stock. I could go to their annual meeting if they have one and make some noise but that usually is an ineffectual way to initiate change.

I've been a member of a number of forums.  One of the things I like about this one is the expectation of civility.  This is not the case on many.  I've quit several because they used way too much foul language and attacked one another in ways they would never do when face to face.

Keep up the good work.  It is appreciated.  :2vrolijk_21:

I agree. People on this forum seem to just be nicer than on some other forums, and they don't (or aren't allowed to) flame others. I like that!  :2vrolijk_21:

It is a "Kinder Gentaler" Forum! I think its great compared to some other motorcycle forums and tech. forums I have been on. Anybody ever read the comments on You Tube Videos? Holly Crap! You can't please all the people all the time but overall I think you guys do a good job. Thanks! :2vrolijk_21:
