The bikes that come from the factory with either the Ventilator or Heavy Breather air cleaners are supposed to have the rain sock from the factory as well.  If you take delivery of such a bike and it isn't installed, it should be with the other throw in items.  If it isn't, insist the dealer provide one since you're paying for it in the price of the bike.

Mine came with a rain sock.
Now if I was just smart enough to use it when it rains.

The rain sock comes with the 2011's. I bought mine pre-owned so who knows where it went. I found one on ebay for $26 which is approx same as the dealer. I think it looks pretty cool on the bike.

My new 2012 SG came with one in the saddlebags, along with all the other goodies.

Rain sock came with my '11 too.

Dealer confirmed today that the sock is supplied with the 2012.

Someone at Vtwin Expo told me that the bike actually performed better with the rain sock on.  I had left mine on for a long time and when I went to take it off, it was starting to stick to the air cleaner, I imagine from the heat as the cleaner cover gets pretty hot, so I leave mine off and haven't remembered to put it on when it starts raining.  Haven't had any problems with the bike even when riding in a heavy rain, and I rode in one for a couple hours just last month.
