Has anyone tried the Wheeldock EZ-Up Center Stand?
« on: October 09, 2011, 02:47:04 AM »

I see a lot of folks on the CVO Road Glides have discussed this, but haven't heard anything from anyone with the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide.  I'm considering purchasing one, and wanted to get some knowledgable feedback.

Interested in the results of this also. Did not realize that many people were using a center stand until we attended MV GTG. Saw a definite bonus to having a center stand option.
Not to jack the thread but. Are all center stands equal? I see HD has one, is it a good product?

Also very interested in this as my 12 Ultra should be delivered in 3 weeks.
Comments I've read mostly said that the HD one is not very good, but I only read good comments about the Wheeldock, so I'll probably get one of those.

I contacted the manufacturer to check on the correct stand to order as other posts on the forum talked about issues with stability related to size of tires on different CVO's.  Here is his answer:

As to the height required for your CVO ultra: You need the standard height CS-09 center stand because the Ultras have stayed with the standard diameter rims.

The CVO Road Glides are the ones that require the CS-09 with the extra ¼” because they use the taller 18 inch wheels with low profile tires that have a net height increase over the non CVO bikes.

The  CVO Street Glides also use the larger diameter wheels but have the shorter 11-3/4” long shocks and take our lowered CS-09-L center stand plus ¼ inch.

It has been difficult to keep up with the changes over the years. For example, when Harley first came out with the CVO Road Glide in 09 they had the shorter shocks but because of complaints about ride quality they went to the current (12-3/4” long shocks) after about 3 months of production.

Feel free to post this information on the forums you are on as it might help folks with fitment questions. I like to do as many installs as possible when at shows because this is the best way I know to keep up with fitment issues.

I've had one for a couple of years. I love it.....use it almost exclusively. Makes it a lot easier to clean and also takes less room in the garage.

I've hit bottom only a couple of times.....my fault on most of them. Speed bumps will rub every time. Some dips in the road will catch too.

Overall, I recommend it. Easy to use too.

Had the EZ-UP stand on both my SESG's...easy to use....and easier than the HD stand. Doesn't hit very often...fast speed bumps and some very hard leans.....but pretty rare.

I had the Wheeldock center stand on a 02 Ultra.  Great product.  Wheeldock is located in Stillwater, OK... about 45 miles from my house.  Great people and great customer service.

I also have the Wheeldock wheel chock in my trailer.  This is the absolute best wheel chock on the market.  I recommend this wheel chock to everyone.

I'm interested in hearing some comments on how well the WheelDock EZ UP center stand works when used with a front & rear lowered suspension.

I realize that their website suggests that they work great with the correct stand, however H-D claims the same thing with theirs... Being a Harley lover, and wanting to save space in the garage for mine and my wife's EG's, last year I had my dealer install a H-D center stand on my bike to try it first prior to installing it on the wife's bike as well.

Long story short, I rode home and attempted to put the bike on the center stand in the garage.  After fighting with it for 10 minutes or so, I rode back to the dealer to have it removed.  Owned that lousy stand for approximately 1-1/2 hours tops, and since then have never found anyone to convince me any other stand would work any better on a "lowered" bike.

I will mention how pleased I am with using my 2 WheelDock chocks for the past number of years and love the ease of use, so I'm guessing that their claims of easy use for their center stands must be true... I would just like to hear some unsolicited comments from their satisfied customers before attempt another stand.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

The SESG is lowered somewhat and the bike is very easy to get on and off the stand.

I've had a stand on a couple of bikes. The Ultra with the wheeldoc is the heaviest of the bunch that I've had. It goes up probably the easiest. It's also probably tougher to get it off the stand, though. It doesn't take much to find that you have to truly push it off, as opposed to riding it off. Works well, but like everything there's good and bad about it.

Rather than buy a one size fits all stand, look for one that is adjustable.  Rivco has such a product, both for the old style frames and for the '09 and later frames.  You can adjust the feet by screwing them in or out such that the rear tire is off the ground the recommended 3/4", or the rear tire is still touching the ground, or anything in between.  When adjusted so the tire still touches, the effort to put the bike on or off the stand is next to nothing; the higher you want the tire off the ground the more effort it will likely take due to the angle of attack.  The nice thing is that you can adjust it how you want it and not just be stuck with whatever the manufacturer decided was a good height.

Just thought I'd pass this along for those who aren't familiar with the company.  I've got one of their adjustable stands for the earlier frames, and the quality and finish are outstanding.  Unlike the various Harley chrome pieces, the plating on my center stand is still excellent after 5+ years.

Thanks, but I believe that the SESG is lowered in the rear only, so you are correct when saying "somewhat"... My '08 SEUC is lowered in the front & rear using H-D's lowering kit and now I'm hoping to hear from someone with the same setup that is satisfied with the EZ-UP stand from WheelDock or any other company such as Revco.

I am planning the Progressive from lowering kit over the winter, so I guess I will find out first hand....

Thanks Tom, seeing your EZ-Up working first hand got me to thinking it would be pretty helpful in a lot of situations. Going to put it on my "want" list.
