WOW, I grew up there; Savannah that is. Spent my summers at Tybee Island. Back then it was just a long deserted beach with some house and one small commercial area at the end of the road. Of course that was 45 years ago and haven't been back since.
Here is a story about the area you may not have heard. Some time after the invention of the Atom bomb, a plane flying over tybee Island area at the mouth of the Savannah River accidently dropped a nuclear bomb. The military spent years looking for it to no avail. As a kid, the river water always showed high level of radiation and it was often blamed on the nuclear power plant upstream from Savannah. Run-off they speculated. Just a few years ago another attempt was made to find the missing weapon with no success. No, my eyes don't glow but my immune system should be examined after I die, because I seem to be immune to almost everything. Been legally dead a few times and stilll came back. Nothing like a good swim in radioactive water to buff up your immune system. Oh, and be sure to drink plenty of it as well..
