11 SESG Engine improvements
« on: October 10, 2011, 05:45:03 PM »

I know this has been beat to death but here it goes again. I have a 11 sesg that I have done the fulsac xpipe Andrews 54 and .030 head gaskets and Steves map I have never been happy how it has ran so i pulled it back apart to dbl check everything that I have done and it all is correct. I dont feel that it has the power that it should and it pings at 3000 rpm when you try to maintain speed so my question is while I have this apart ( jugs off cams out ) what would be the best route for this engine? I mostly ride on long trips 1 up about 1/2 the time the other is 2 up pulling a trailer I like to ride this bike as I have 18.5 K in 8 months.
Thanks Chuck

Might help if you post your dyno sheet.  Who tuned it?

1. Advance the cam +4
2. Use Fullsack 2" baffles in stock mufflers
3. Mill the barrels to get 0 deck
4. Use a .030 head gasket
5. Add high ratio HD non-roller rockers intake side only
6. Get it properly tuned including a full work up on the timing table

Should make a new bike out of it. The 110 is very reversion prone (exaggerated by exhaust back pressure on overlap) but I don't think the intake opening at 20 and short 32 overlap will hurt especially if the tuner knows how to use the MT8 files and the intake open option.

If your concern is better acceleration and "pulling power", especially two up and towing, you will likely get more bang for your buck with a gearing change versus going into the bottomless pit of engine mods.  Look at some of the 30 tooth trans sprocket threads.  Of course, you will still want to do a good tune on the bike regardless.  Sometimes a canned map just doesn't match up well for whatever reason, so seek out a good tuner.

I ride much the same, only with my '10 Limited, same combo as yours. Don't have a problem with pinging, had the bike dyno tuned (Fullsac).........BUT.......I have the 30T pulley and I do run regular gas.
Get 44 MPG solo, and down to 33 loaded and pulling the trailer.
I suggest you get a GOOD dyno tune and let the guy know HOW you ride, and MAYBE change the gearing. I have the power I need, and can pull my trailer up most grades in 6th with the cruise on.

Well............comparing donuts to donuts.........maybe you would benefit from a GOOD tune?
You should probably see a dyno similar to this one:
