It's..........Drop your spare week.
« on: October 16, 2011, 09:34:51 PM »

I stopped when I saw a guy under the back end of his p/u on the side of the highway the other day.......offered my assistance....he said a buddy was on his way with a cordless sabersaw to cut the rod holding his spare up.....he hadn't had it down in years.    Drop it, brush it, lube it.......you just might need it when it doesn't want to be 'released'.

Dropped mine for the first time in 9 yrs.......tire was flat. So much for my spare. In this case "FORD HAS A STUPIDER IDEA"

Have done the "hey, look at me with the flat spare tire" dance before.  Once.  Now check it when have the vehicle up in the air at each oil change.

New recommendation is to put 50 lbs of air in spare to allow for slow leakage. Easier to let excess air out of the spare than to add air when needed. (Remember to check pressure after spare is on.)

I began to hit the spare with the car wash wand after getting the mud, sand and rust on the threads. Dirt and sand falls into the eyes on the first twist and then into the shirt sleeve after you move to the side.

Now have a cranking cable winch on the current GM product. Lower it, drag it out, unhook it. No need to crawl on your back. (No need to crawl after the first time in which you learned there's a winch.) :2vrolijk_21:
