V & H Monster Round Slip-ons
« on: October 22, 2011, 03:48:56 PM »

Hi,
Anybody have fitted the V & H Monster Round Slip-ons please? What do you reckon on the exhaust sound / quality?
Believe the model number is 16773 for a 2012 Street Glide.
I am thinking of ordering a set of the slip-ons for my soon to be delivered grey / black FLHXSEIII.

Three weeks to go and counting......

I have them on my bike along with the V&H power duals. They look great. To my ears they are a bit quieter than I like or than I am used to but they are deep and throaty. I road for years with V&H Basics and they for the last 2 years with Samson fishtails. The fishtails could be obnoxious but damn did they sound nice. I think for a SG, the rounds are a nice combo of sound and ability to hear the sound system.

I too have the monster rounds with power dual.  Both by V & H and I love the deep sound.  They are not obnoxious and you can still hear the radio while cruising down the highway.

Attached is a picture of my bike with the monster rounds and the wife's with the monster ovals.  We both get a lot of compliments for the sound.

Thank you sinktip and Master Guns.
Deep sound and throaty and still can hear the sounds. Thats all the recommendation I need guys.
They look good too on your ride Master Guns.
I have been quoted £581 pounds  delivered to my door. That's an amazing amount of money which is equiv to approx $850 us dollars. In the states they are approx $650 so quite a mark up in England.
I heard some Screaming Eagles on a glide today but they were just too loud.
So the Monster Rounds look like the way to go. Just need to raise the cash.
Wish the MoCo would actually sell a bike with a proper Harley sound rather than the emaciated pop pop pop we get from the politically correct cans these days.
But then if they did we would only find another way to spend our salary.   :pineapple:
Ride safe all.

What is the difference in the Monster Rounds and the HI-OUTPUT Slip on's? They look the same. I just installed the 4th exhaust system on my SERK looking for that right sound, And have found it, Deep Throaty sound, I guess i could hear the radio if i had one, I can hear my buddies radio when he is beside me and he can hear his when he's behind me now. :huepfenlol2:

Not sure what the difference is SERK3
Hi-Output  http://www.vanceandhines.com/store/touring/slipons/16457
Monster Rounds  http://www.vanceandhines.com/store/touring/slipons/16773

The Hi-Output gives one the opportunity to insert a quiet baffle. Also I think the Hi-Outputs are more for a moded engine.
Both are the same price however.
Maybe someone on here knows the actual difference between the two?

Hi Pete,

I have V&H Power duals, and Monster Ovals on my 2011 CVO Electra. The mufflers were supplied with the bike from warrs in London. I then changed the headers to Power Duals because of the heat generated from the CAT. Also had mapping cha

Sounds & looks great, a little noisy, but as they say "Load Pipes Save Lives".

looks like the hi output will give the best power and monsters will be a little quieter. You have to decide which you prefer.

Not sure I'd put money on that. I recall Doc saying the hi outputs are good for about a 10 hp loss- too wide open apparently.

Interesting. They do state for hi output motors. Probably not best for stock but if you plan future hopups it might be an option. Was Docs test on a stock or modified ie head work etc.. motor?

Sorry but I will have to disagree. My 2011 CVO Street Glide with V & H "True Duals" and V & H Hi-Output Slip-Ons dynoed at 89.52 HP & 108.25 TQ. This was on a real calibrated dyno not a dyno calibrated to offer higher results.

Funny thing is, everyone always says "True Duals" and Hi-Output Slip-Ons perfrom MUCH worse than 2-1-2's or 2-1's with more restrictive mufflers but my results along with many others with the same setup perform almost exactly in the same range as these so called better setups. Again, that's looking at true calibrated dyno results not the uncalibrated.

As far as the difference between Hi-Outputs and Monster rounds goes the Hi-Outputs have a larger diameter stepped baffle design and they also have billet end caps as opposed to the formed end caps on the monster rounds. The Hi-Outputs are much louder than the Monster Rounds.

Peter, No one exhaust system is going to noticablly (Seat of the Pants) outperform another on a STOCK motor. For un-modified motors the only true differences you will find is Sound, Decible and Look.

Don't know about the hp loss have not had it on a dyno just seat of the pants, with the hi-outputs it seems its not as quick off the line or low end, but from 40/50 mph up it seems to be a lot stronger, quickier  :nixweiss:, Don't get me wrong i'm not complaining it gets me down the road as fast i want to, I'm more into the look and sound and these HI-OUTPUT's are dead on.  :2vrolijk_21:

Ah, but what is the shape of the curve? How do you calibrate a dyno to give higher results?

Exactly.

Well I have decided on the Monster Rounds. Going to take delivery of the bike in a few weeks and then ride it for a while before purchasing the V&H slip-ons. Just waiting for the Stealership to advise me that the bike has arrived in the UK.
Ride safe all.
