They helped on my previous bikes...or so I thought.  :confused5:

I may have to take them off the RG and try it out.

As far as removing the lowers, I HAVE TO in the summer due to the heat, but it is a LOT more wind buffeting with them off on my bike.

Took mine off after the last thread 2 weeks ago . Looks better and over all the heat is much less confined and spreads out , much better without those ugly things.

Well, thanks for the great responses. My 05 SEEG has lowers on it and I didn't have any wind buffeting coming beside the fuel tank like I do on my Ultra and as I said I know it wasn't coming from my windhield as I can feel it going over my head. I will first try it without the deflectors and thanks JC for bringing up the heat gun. I have one and will play with it to see what it tells. This experiment is secondary since I will be having my 1000 mile service and Fullsac goodies installed while I'm out of town next week. After I get my Yellow Jacket home I will play with the deflectors and let you know. Thanks again everyone and God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

Oh yeah, one more thing. I really didn't notice any heat issues on my new bike with the cat in and stock mufflers until I was cruising on the hwy on my weekend trip. Before that it got in the upper 80's and got caught in traffic a couple times and was surprised I didn't feel any heat on my calf or thigh. Figured the excitement of the new bike hadn't worn off yet! :D

Well when they first came out I bought a set of the Kuryakn smoke/chrome shields and put them on my old 03 RKC. I think to be honest the only time I could tell that they helped was in the summer months while stopped at a traffic light or heavy traffic. Plan was to try them on mine before buying a second set for the wifes RKC but neither of us could tell that they helped much unless your feet were on the ground. I thought the Kuryakns ones looked better than the HD shields. I think I will remove them from the 09 after reading this thread. They are still on the 03 but  :nixweiss:.

First thing I noticed on the new frame after trading my 03 Ultra was the increased amount of buffeting. Ride the FLHTK in the summer with the lowers off. After several months, I had to address the buffeting. Started with the windshield-- no change. Then I noticed that my leg position affected the wind flow from around the tank. I replaced the wind deflectors on the side of the fairing and this helped some. Found a Klock Werks windshield and that helped some more. Lower fairings make little difference. Looking to see if the Road Glide wind deflectors that attach to the tank and crash bar will fit. These plug the same space that seems to be causing the problem I have. Sorry for the long post, but this has been my only disappointment with the new frame

I really don't like the looks of those things.  For as bad as they look, they should do something.   I think they do more harm than good.    :confused5:

I don't care for the looks either, but I think they do serve a purpose, at least here in the South.  They keep heat off the inside of your thighs.

You guys that took um off, let me know what you think of that mod next summer when you're stuck in stop and go traffic on a 100+ degree day!

That's exactly what they were designed for. I'm still curious to see if taking them off changes any buffeting on any of the new touring frames.

I have an 2010 Street Glide CVO and put them on this summer because my inner thighs were getting hot sitting in traffic and just riding on hot days. For me they work perfect. No more heat on my legs. I think they look ok also. IMHO - best thing I have added to the bike.

Funny, I like how they look on my color of bike... and they do work, move to a place where it's 110* and tell me how they are ineffective

Could the new (6 gal.) tank have anything to do with the differenet air flow. :nixweiss:

after looking closely at the location that they're mounted, it seems they would channel heat right to the top of a BSR's foot, or am i out in left field on that?
