Installed the go faster chrome trim on mine 2 weeks ago. Thank goodness I saved 12 bucks by buying with discount, cause after reading this thread, gotta takeum off and see.

And now u have the trim on them? If u don't want them, I would be interested in an exchange deal! ;)

Good thought on the 6 gallon tank changing the airflow. There's a difference in flow from the old frame vs the new IMHO. Changing leg position helps some. Also, problem seems to be more on the right  side. Air cleaner cover?

Funny, I like how they look on my color of bike... and they do work, move to a place where it's 110* and tell me how they are ineffective

You get 110 degree weather in Idaho?   :nixweiss:

Yes, high desert in Boise and south. Yes there were 3-4 days of 104*+ and my bike read 110*+ on my bike's thermo whiler stopped on the road. North of here is mountains that have white tops year around.
It is like two different worlds! Before I got the cat remove from my RG and the other motor work, asap because my bike was hitting 300*  nearly every time I rode it. Now it's cool.. ;)

I believe ya brother, but from personal experience, I wouldn't put much stock in that in-fairing temp guage.  Too many times I've been sitting in 95 degree stop-and-go traffic out here and the air temp gauge in my fairing has been pegged!  :nervous: The only time I trust that gauge is when I first fire the bike up, because I figure it's been sitting in a static environment in my garage, so it can't be too far off.  :-\

The same vendor probably makes the fuel gauge!

:huepfenlol2: Your right Tommy! But I did notice on the 12 that it is a little more accurate than my 05. On the 05 was slow go to about 1/2 tank then fall to empty fast and you better be close to a gas station. On th 12 it does well and when it shows near empty you still have a couple gallons. I like it better that way but still go by miles! ;D

My 2012 reads the following. At 3/4 I have gone 50 miles- at 1/2 100 miles-at 1/4 150 miles. Then it goes to empty in about 10 miles. The light come on when there is 1 gallon left.

I've wondered about those things too...I don't see how they could do anything but keep the heat on the rear cylinder.  Didn't HD come out with these things as a "solution" to the heat issues with the 110's in '07 or '08?  To keep the heat off your thigh?

Yes...at the expense of engine longevity....so they can sell you more engine parts.  Quite a marketing concept isn't it?

Any further update on taking off the engine heat deflectors to reduce the buffeting?
Anyone else done it, does it work?

I looked at putting them on my bike, I think they look plain on there own and with the chrome trim they look neat. However I think they create a pocket that will trap the heat and thats one thing I don't want to do so reading thought the comments I have decided to go without them and keep the clean lines from the tank to side covers.

I noticed extra heat way back in October 2011 when I got my big red.  Posted then that I took off the heat deflectors and it made a big difference.   Seems they act as an air dam and keep the hot air right there next to your leg.

Best config for me is with the fairing deflectors open most of the way and no mid-frame deflectors.
