Not sure why anyone would buy a pre-drilled pad, if they have the current one. Takes about 5 minutes to mark, drill and cut the original pad. Nothing to it.

because i didn't want to F it up? and if I get rid of bike I can put original back on and take my gps with me

I'm happy with the way mine came out, had fun doing it, saved some money and now know more about the rats nest under the fairing.  After doing that I feel better about installing the AUX jack on the radio.  Not big on the pigtail plugging into the front jack.  Thanks to Rebecca for sending all the correct parts!  She put the predrilled pad in the box along with a new trim piece but I sent them back.  If I need a new dash pad if I sell the bike so be it.

Well I finally got all the parts, and installed the 660. I tell you the hardest part was drilling out and prepping the dash pad. ( I used the original not the pre drilled one ) Had to adjust the holes a bit to line things up. In the end all fit nice and is working great.  Now I want to research what cams to buy. I want to increase power with out loosing the bottom end. Any thoughts?

I called Rebecca and she sent me everything I needed for a fairing mount of the 665/NIM.  Hardest part was getting up the nerve to dremel through the dash pad and plastic fairing and lining up the two bracket bolt holes.  I went from the inside out.  For the most part everything was plug and play.  I hooked up the GPS power and ground to the spare connectors on the headlight harness.  In the drawing looks like the 660 has a plug connected to the fuse and ground wire.

Take your time with radio plug 28? (35 pin plug).  I cut the tape and pulled back some of the wire loom.  Remove the red pin guide assembly by the clips on each side of the plug.  Pull the five white dummy plugs out from the wire side and slide the new wired connectors from the GPS harness in.  Might not need to remove the red guide but I couldn’t see the connectors with is still attached.  Just did it Wednesday and so far everything works great even with the three windshield bags.  I’ll put it to the test on the Blue Ridge this weekend.  Didn’t see where the GPS female mic plug for the CB connects to.  Please feel free to point out an easier/better way and any differences with the 660 besides the XM AUX IN.

Gregg

The 2.5mm female mic plug does not go to the CB. This is an external microphone input to the GPS. If you wanted to make or take a phone call via your paired cell phone from the bike using your helmet mounted microphone you can install an H-D Bomm (www.hdbomm.com) and plug it into the 2.5mm female mic plug. If your bike has a NIM installed you will also need to split the audio output from the GPS so that you are feeding both the NIM & Auxiliary Input on the radio. You need to do this to listen to a phone call, MP3 songs you have loaded into the GPS or XM if you have the 665 model of the GPS. I have attached a wiring diagram which will help you out.

Navigation Interface Module (NIM). The large female connector is 3.5mm and is the GPS Stereo Audio Output. If you have a NIM installed on the bike it connects to the NIM. If you have a NIM you will also need to split this output so that you feed both the NIM and the Auxiliary Input. If you do not have a NIM then it just goes to the Auxiliary Input on the front of the radio and allows you to hear Turn Prompts, MP3 song that you put on an SD card and insert in the GPS and Phone Calls if you pair your cell phone to the GPS. If you have a Zumo/Road Tech 665 then you also have XM radio so you can listen to that also thru the Auxiliary Input. The USB cable on the 660 is not used but if you had a 665 then the XM Radio Puck/Antenna plugs into it. The small female as I said is the GPS External Microphone Input and is where you plug in a helmet microphone interface if you want to use the helmet microphone to talk on the paired cell phone.

The NIM will automatically mute other functions of the radio so that you can hear turn prompts ONLY. It will not allow you to listen to MP3, XM or a phone call you need the Auxiliary Input for these. The NIM will only work if you have the Harley version of the Zumo 660 or 665 a Road Tech 660 or a Road Tech 665. The Zumo 660 or 665 will not work with a NIM.

Thanx for all that great info. Just leaves me with more questions however.  My bike has the GPS in the stereo. Does that mean it has a NIM?  On top of the stereo there are 2 silver rectangular boxes, one is the CB and the other I dont know what it is. Is this the NIM?  How do I find this NIM? How do I know if my bike has one? If it does, where is the plug located for the large female from the GPS? ( no pun intended here )

If you have the GPS in the radio then you do not have the NIM. The NIM is only used if you have a Road Tech 660 or 665 GPS. The second box on top of your radio is the XM radio.

I installed a Road Tech 660 and powered it up with the head light wires. Seems to work good. So, now if I want the prompts to come through the radio I need to install the NIM and plug it in.

I installed a Road Tech 660 and powered it up with the head light wires. Seems to work good. So, now if I want the prompts to come through the radio I need to install the NIM and plug it in.

If you often listen to say the FM radio when you are riding and you want the radio to stop playing the FM station you are listening to when a turn prompt is present then yes you will need the NIM.

Now say you do not listen to FM radio when you are riding but you listen to your own music that you have loaded onto an SD card that you have in your GPS then the answer would be that you do not need the NIM.

The NIM will automatically mute whatever you are listening to (FM, AM, a CD) when a turn prompt is present from the GPS. You will hear the turn prompt and then the NIM will return the radio to the last function you were listening to before the turn prompt (FM, AM, a CD, etc.).

Now say you have a NIM installed and you want to listen to your MP3 files or a phone call from the GPS then you will still need to split the audio output from the GPS and route the audio output to both the NIM and the Auxiliary Input on the radio. The NIM will only interupt the radio for a turn prompt it will not interupt the radio for MP3 or a phone call. If you have the 665 model this would also be true for XM radio via the GPS.
