Do you have an air baffle on your bike?
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:42:49 AM »

I took the heat shields off cause they were ugly on my 09 and after running and then coming to a stop I would get a blast of hot air , like oven door open gush, so I took em off, that went away...Now taking the front lower leg off helped alot with the air that pushed up the front of the tank...riding without them has made that go away. Now winshield and helmet combo...maybe back to a 4 inch with a new arai rx that is due friday...hope it works or I may hang it up.
Do you have an air baffle installed IMHO they really keep the wind from lifting your helmet.

Have one.  It does help keep some air from coming over the tank, but that never caused my helmet to move.  Just wanted to cut a little additional rain coming around the tank.

I have always had one. They used to be stock (albeit in black plastic), now they make you buy it.

Had one on the 05 and put it on the 10..  Keeps air/rain from coming up from below.  Easy to install and relatively inexpensive for a Harley part.  The box probably cost harley more than the baffle.

Yes they work wonders stopping the wind blowing over the tank hitting your chest and up to your helmet.

Adapted to my '07 FXSTC.

I had the updraft blow a pack of cigarettes out of my shirt pocket on an 08 SEUC.  The baffle solved that problem.  I now have an '11 SERGU which has the engine guard mounted deflectors.  They work well enough that I don't need the fork baffle for this bike.

I always add the baffle if not on when bike is purchased, keeps the wind down and is a nice piece of shiny chrome.

Maybe, but the MoCo was accommodating enough to include a cigarette lighter as standard equipment, so they must approve of the habit.  I probably should have quit decades ago, but I figure I'm so old now it doesn't matter that much any more.

It does seem to help with the blast of air coming up from the bottom.

Get it... love it! It will eliminate a lot of buffeting... can't believe CVOs don't come with this little piece of chrome already attached. The MoCo is SO cheap these days. The $25 you spend for the air baffle is the second best investment you can make in your Harley.

:jack: But the BEST investment you can make is replacing the P.O.S. INA caged cam bearings with full complement Torringtons as soon as possible. They are about $10 each from Georges-Garage.com. Replace those crap INA bearings before they fail and take your engine's lower end with them. When my 54H cams were installed in my bike at 500 miles, one of the INA cam bearings FELL APART on removal, and needles went everywhere... thankfully not in the crankcase. INA cam bearings qualify as scrap metal in my book.... can't believe they are even made... and worse, the MoCo continues to use them...
