Is this removeable?
« on: June 23, 2006, 01:21:58 PM »

I am moving my license plate from the stock mounting location (I have 04 SEEG) to under the tailight like the 05 SEEG's, using HD moco parts. I would like to remove the tubular steel that the stock license plate bracket is bolted too. Is this structural? Does it serve a purpose, other than to hold up said license plate bracket? If anyone has done this your comments and pictures if possible would be appreciated.

It can be removed, I believe I saw a "kit" in the Drag Specialties catalog that had some trim pieces that clean it up when removed. I'll check late and let you know.

I just hacksawed mine off last weekend. You need to hacksaw it i believe cause the bolt point serves as a structural union between the fender struts and the saddlebag quick releases - anotherwords the saddlebags depend on a good bolting point and thats it. as for the drag specialties kit I didn't know about it but am looking for car license plate bolts with a round pointy and chrome ends that should work. I got orange reflectors about the right size for the time being but man what a clean look, love it! Good luck

BTW I did this as part of a big picture plan, I went with a 2-1 LSR exhaust and now have my left side open and am fabricating a plate mount under the left saddlebag. I have the 05 kit to mount the plate under the tailight but don't think I will use it so it may go up for sale if any one is interested...
