Stock HD Rider's backrest, does it work for you?
« on: November 01, 2011, 05:18:44 PM »

I have the 2011 FLTRUSE that came with the stock HD Rider's backrest.  I tried all sorts of adjustments but can't get it to work for me.  On a Mustang seat I have no problem adjusting their backrest.  However I'm trying to stay with the stock CVO heated seat.

Any advice on how you got it to conform to your comfort?

I assume you've pulled the seat off and tried relocating the bracket either further up or further back?  And sticking an Allen head wrench in the back of the backrest pad to adjust the tilt?  At first, I moved my bracket forward a hole...too close.  Ended up moving it back a hole, first holes for the backrest (vertical position), and adjusting the tilt until I got it right.  Short of that, there are no other adjustments.

If all adjustments fails for you to get comfy on the stock backrest, I am 99% sure a Mustang Backrest will fit with your stock seat (call Mustang to be sure).

also:
I have the HD adjustable backrest and it adjusts fairly easily with a lever that is under the heat shield.
It is very similar to the Mustang in design.

You can use a Mustang backrest mount under a Harley seat... no problem. They have their own backrest mount that goes in the same place a Harley mount does. Mustang makes the BEST rider backrests you can get... period. Their mechanism puts H-D, Corbin, and everything else I've seen to SHAME. I know, I have one on the '95 EVO Police Special E-Glide. You can adjust it 20 ways from Sunday, and just pull it off when you don't want it on. Mustang did it RIGHT.

I use mine as a push back when I get tired, rarely sit where it touches my back at all times.

I haven't taken the seat off.  I didn't know there was a bracket adjustment under the seat.  I did try the other mentioned adjustments.

The Mustang seat backrest I mentioned goes into the Mustang seat and not to a fender mounted bracket.  This seat was on my former RK.

I'll remove the seat and see what bracket adjustments there are.  Thanks

I got the seat off and made the bracket adjustments at about 2AM.  Planning a test ride to see if further adjustments are needed.  Thanks TCnBham for the suggestion and heads up.

Just got back from a 100 mile test ride.  Huge improvement with rider backrest now.  Thank you all!
