Roadtech 660 Issues
« on: November 01, 2011, 06:02:30 PM »

So...have been having intermittant problems with the 660.  Once or twice, it sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks were inside it trying to escape, and pissed about it as well.  Other times, it would talk through the HK radio, but you could hear the mic open at the same time.  So, I got the NIM replaced with the new version (at least that's what the work order/invoice says from the HD dealer...it's the "A" version), hoping and praying that would fix things.  No such luck.  Still talks like a chipmunk from time to time, and recently stopped even trying to interrupt the radio to give audible directions, after the initial "Please follow the selected route" when you first start up a saved route, or a "Go Home" input.  So today I had to run a little errand about 25 miles away, and when leaving the place, hit Go Home just to see what was happening today.  Unit interrupts, gives initial instructions, then the radio stays interrupted (stereo is muted, and stays muted) until you turn it off.  When you turn it off, you can hear a long beeping sound in the background before it finally allows the stereo to resume playing and shuts itself off.  Turn it back on and it repeats the behavior.  Maps work fine, and it SHOWS directions, but won't talk.

Hooked the unit up to the PC to make sure all software is updated...it is.  Called Garmin and got transferred to their "Dealer Troubleshooting" department...they were nice enough.  So, back goes the unit to Garmin for "replacement", which means I will get a "refurbished" replacement.  Keep your fingers crossed that somebody actually FIXED the one they are going to send me after they get mine.  The HD dealer offered to ship it to them, which was nice, but since there's a UPS store right down the street, I'll just do it myself so I can track everything and not be dependent on someone else to speed things along as much as possible.  I'll give Garmin one chance to get this right...if not, I'm going to insist on a brand new unit, though I'm sure my blood pressure will suffer in the process.  Hopefully, they'll get it right the first time.

Moderators:  there's an older thread about problems with the 660, but I got the warning that it was over 30 days since anyone had posted, so started a new one...Merge if you want to... :2vrolijk_21:
