Mike.  I had to remove the rubber bumpers that are rivited to the bottom.  Once those were removed, the seat fits flush on the strips. It came with a spacer that goes between the mounting tab and the fender for added protection. The thumb screw that came with the bike works fine back there.

That's on the Mustang seat--right???  I know the Corbin is completely different since it locks to a mounting pin that sticks up on the rear fender.

fortunately, I don't need a pillion pad for the SESG3.  When we two-up, we take the SEURG.  The SESG3 is just my "solo" ride.  But I'd like to have a back rest.  Maybe, just maybe, the MoCo has seen the folly in their ways with the SERGC and SESG3 seat and come out with a matching backrest at the mid-year meeting.   :nixweiss:

I have to have a backrest.   Holds me on the bike so I feel comfortable twisting the throttle.  Also the support on a long trip.

Yes Im sure the MoCo will decide to do a SESG3 rider backrest!  Just like they decided to do the lighted consle on the SESG2!

Here´s what I did on my 2012 FLXHSE3. Hope this works for you.

I purchased part 51144-02 and 51099-02 (Softail Deuce Backrest) and mounted it backwards. All I did was secure it with tough Velcro (works fine since what holds it in place is the rider´s weight), and added a rubber padding to protect the fender. The easiest install ever and works great. The only drawback is it only works with a solo passenger configuration.

here are some pictures

I painted mine black to match the bike. Chrome looked great too.

and one more fyi.

I forgot to mention this is easy to remove without tools. I replaced the stock screws for a bit longer ones, but still holds and hides in place with the oem bolts.  Very easy to install and take off, a matter of seconds.  The backrest fits with no problems in the saddlebag.  I like way better the looks of the bike without the backrest, but for the long haul, it`s a must for me.

Hey, Coco, looks like a possible solution.  I have no problem with the stock seat, my butt must have a lot more padding than many on this forum.

My question is, does the MoCo still sell these?  If not, do Corbin, Mustang, or C&C have after market backrests?  Any suggestions where to find a backrest that will fit an '02 Deuce Softail?

Was looking at the p&a catalog and it looks like Harley makes a solo seat with a backrest now. The signature series solo seat #51700-09 . Might be looking ito one myself :pineapple:

Thanks, Coco.  Sorry, I misread your first post.  Thought you wrote "02 Softail Deuce Backrest".  Must be the Alzheimers kickin in.

Did the Corbin Solo and love it.  Sent them pics of stock seat and you can tell by the pics they did a great job copying design.  My only beef is their back rest design, doesn't flex like the Harley on I had on previous Ultra, I have short arms but now that I'm getting Wild1 575 that should make things right by setting me back 2'.
