FOR THOSE THINKING ABOUT SELLING THEIR BIKE FOR LOGICAL REASONS!
« on: November 02, 2011, 09:11:55 AM »

Hi guys & gals,

I'm going to play Ann Landers here:  I sold my bike in September!  I bought a lake house (1,300 sq ft) , a pontoon boat, a small jet boat, and we are planning on doubling the size of this home, selling our current home making that our permanent residence.  I was running short on cash, liquid cash and began to feel uncomfortable, and then came the irrational thoughts.  I am now looking for a new bike and I am reading the text of many of the sellers and their reasons for selling.  Dejavu, yeah, I began to rationalize:  wow, got the lake house, the boats, winters coming, we will eventually be down a non-paved road, when will I find the time to ride and get use out of the bike moving forward, wife doesn't ride with me (good thing, she talks too much!)  A lot of the same chit I am reading by some of the sellers.  Truth is, after our annual summer trip, I only put about 400 miles on the bike during the month of August. Considering everything else mentioned above........sounds like a logical decision with good reasoning?????  It sold in 2 days to a very happy camper in Wisconsin, he got a perfect bad ass machine. Hopefully everyone that sells on this thread carry that level of integrity on the sale?

Truth is, if you really like to ride (I do) and your scooter is a stress relief from work, family, and bullchit.  Regardless if the bitch sits in the garage and all you do is polish it and stare at it, maybe get that once in a while mental brake ride or whatever......DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE AND SELL YOUR BIKE LIKE I DID!!  I will never be able to replace it, in my opinion nothing will ever match this bad boy!  I am looking hard, and I will have another scooter very soon.................MAN WAS THAT STUPID.

Hope I have been able to turn one brother around and set them on the right path?  This is my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!

Life without a motorcycle for me would be like life without air! I have always had at least one bike since the age of 6. I don't even know what I would do with myself if I had no bike! Not into sports and don't have any hobbies. I am into the bikes 110%. Sorry you sold you bad ass ride!

X2!!! I don't ride one tenth as much as some here however everytime I do ride it's still a thrill and I've had seller's remorse before don't want to deal with/have that again. Good luck on finding another bike. :2vrolijk_21:

I've had no emotional issue nor sense of loss everytime I've tried to sell one of 103's bikes.  Just sayin'.

If I recall, I think everyone on this forum tried talking you out of getting rid of your "baby".  Lesson learned that we all can live by.

I also have been on a bike since I was about 6 years old. I still own the bike that my grandfather and father used to put me on the gas tank and take me for rides or there daily airens. At 11 I was already riding my own mini bike and my grandfathers bike and I have not looked back since. Except for my first 2 mini bikes I still own every motorcycle I bought and owned.

It is simply guys......you look your wife in the eye and say "would you rather I have 6 girlfriends or 6 bikes". ;D

I do not know what it is but for some reason I just cannot part with them. I think I would die if I seen someone else riding one of my baby's. I just do not want to share what I ride......that includes the wife. :P

Sorry for your loss Peppe. I remember seeing your bike and posting that if I was to buy another bike that would be the one. Awesome bike. Go get another so you can sleep at night. :2vrolijk_21:

I got my first bike when I was 8 years old and rode until I was 30. Like a lot of people I took a 25 year break before getting another bike.
In the hiatus I owned several Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes (convertibles and Hot Rods) and none of them gave me the feeling of a motorcycle. Let alone the feeling of a Harley.

I am looking at a nice 2011 SERG for sale on the site, also a SERG Ultra listed.  Beautiful bikes, but not sure if they will satisfy.  I do miss the sharknose fairing from my previous RG (pictured) but not sure if I want the luxury look and lose that bad ass look of my CVO Ultra in the picture.  More than likely I will either get a Skunk or Cobalt Blue SERG and start from scratch to fix the itch?

Good luck with your search for a replacement.
I wonder if those with seller's remorse are really missing the bike itself or the "good times" created on that bike? We often tell the survivors of wrecks posted on this site that we are glad they survived and that bikes can be easily replaced. So on that train of thought I think any bike can be replaced physically. Maybe even improved upon with more customization with your greater experiences and also improvements over the years from the factory. I'm sure in time you will love the new bike once you create great memories on it as well.
I know remorse can set in if you loved the old and the new is not as good as you hoped for. I don't mid selling if it leads to better experiences or it is a true necessity such as family financial issues. I would rather keep a roof over my family's head or pay for a wedding than to have a bike. I have accepted the fact that I can't have it all and have to limit my hobbies and amount of toys. That being said I will hate the day I have to quit motorcycling all together due to physical issues (age someday?).
I am considering selling my 2006 SE Ultra but plan to keep my 2009 SERG as a "practical" decision so i can still ride yet free up some cash from the garage...

Never got over selling my '79 Low Rider. Probably why I can't let my '99 Softail Custom go. No matter how nice the Limited is, that FXSTC still puts a smile on my face. Thought about trading both for the '12 CVO Ultra, but I would miss the Softail. Besides, one's not enough. Take some time, and the new ride will show itself. Buy it and bond with it.
