Parts needed to put vented lowers on old SERG?
« on: November 03, 2011, 12:41:18 PM »

Anyone put the vented lowers on an old Road Glide (I can't make myself cut the originals to add vents)?

Is the following all that's needed:

58530-10 Fairing Mount
58454-10 Left Lower Support
58460-10 Right Lower Support

Or will the crash bar have to be changed also?

Looking for ideas for a small winter project for the bike.

You may not have to change the main bracket. Something sticks in my pea brain that Harley changed the mounting angle in 2004. Rotated back or down 4-5 degrees.

There is a difference between making a reversible change that only involves using existing holes versus cutting BAH (big ass holes) in each lower fairing.....

Not worried about the skills with the rotary cutter.  Just hate making the irreversible change to the body parts.

Only a suggestion...

http://www.classicmotorcycleairvents.com/

I only know of two options for aftermarket vents.  Of the two that one would be my preference.

IIRC, bracketry was changed in '04-05 and once again in 2010... supposed to sit .8" higher and have a bit more tilt.

I cut my silver stardust lowers with a dremel.  Masked the area well and proceeded slowly.  I like the Hoppe cause they are not that visible.

Thanks for the pic Gordy.  As of about three weeks ago I've got a set of that same vent here now.  Lowers are back on for the winter so I haven't had to get up enough nerve to cut them yet.  Maybe someday before spring.....

Although they are not the largest vents out there, they do work.  Hoppe industries, the fairing guys.
