gas tank emblems
« on: November 10, 2011, 06:34:49 PM »

Any idea on how they are fastened to the gas tank? In the case of a CVO, if you wanted to change it on a CVO Road Glide can you, I would assume the tank is painted in full and then the emblem over it?

Use fishing line or dental floss to remove the metal emblem...work it back and forth between the emblem and tank.  Remove residue with a solvent.

I WOULDN'T PUT A HEAT GUN OR HAIR DRIER ANYWHERE NEAR A GAS TANK!

All it takes is some gas vapor and a spark and your week is ruined.  Better to let sit in a hot garage or in direct sunshine.

Changed tank badges on my FLHTK, fishing line only. Came off pretty easy. Minimal residue. Been told it's a little easier with heat, but I agree with earlier post.    JoeS

Just to give you an idea...

This is what I did to my '08 Duracell to get rid of the original fugly red badge.  JMHO of course, but I thought the red clashed with the copper on the bike.

Yeah that badge looks 200% better than the OEM. I don't know what they were thinking having red in it. If I bought a 2012 model with the "skull" tank badge that would be the first thing I would change.
