fxrg Jacket Mystery
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:17:34 AM »

I bought an HD fxrg jacket from another member.  It has a panel of material about 10" square sewn into the center lower back with half a zipper along the lower edge (see pic below).  What the heck is it for?

To zip to the pants (when you buy them).

Keeps the cold air from going up your back....or down your plumbers crack.

How in the world do you zip the pants & coat together?  Sure can't do it after putting them on.  Do it before you dress?  What if you need to go to the bathroom (#2) while on the road, take both off together & squat nearly nekkid?  Obviously I've never had pants w/ the other half of the zipper in them.

The FXRG pants (both the textile and the leather) have the zipper in them and they're waterproof also.  Surpirngly, it's easier to zip them together after you put them on.  At least that's the way my wife does it. :nixweiss:

There's 2 more ways to go about it. Either zip them together before putting either on, then pull the pants on and then put the jacket on. The panel stretches enough to do this. Slightly modifying this, put the pants on, then zip the jacket to them and then put the jacket on. All 3 ways work, depending on your agility.

I have the pants and jacket. Never zipped and never felt the need too.

BTW, I was told by my dealer the other day that the FXRG jacket I have with a 5 year warranty is also covered by the new FX stuff lifetime warranty.

If you were to race, road or drag, the pants and the coat being zipped together qualifies as a "Suit" for some sanctioning bodies. Others require a full suit. If you ever slide down the road on your back, the two being zipped together would sure help prevent road rash. The coat will ride up (that I promise) and the pants will slide down.
No other reason than safety, unless you need coat to hold up your pants.

If you've got a long torso, zipping them together helps keep the cold drafts from running up the back of the jacket.

No way that flimsy panel is going to keep the jacket from riding up or the pants down in an accident.

Porthole, someone at AHDRA and whatever they call jap bike drag racing, thinks they are smarter than you, because they accept that zipper deal as O.K.

I have some non HD pants and they match up perfect so you don't have to use the FXRG pants with this zipper.

Whatever.
If the AHDRA accepts that jacket pants combo for track use what does that have to with the reality of it being nothing more then a 7" piece of spandex that easily stretches to double the length?

I have the pants and jacket, they are a good combo for recreational riding. The jacket/pants combo work pretty good without being zippered together.
I've never used it other then to try it. And if I was going to weekend warrior race and the combo was allowed I would probably use it. But if I was racing every weekend I would get a race suit.
