Best cams for 2010 110 Ultra
« on: November 15, 2011, 10:49:27 PM »

Looking to install a set of cams on my 2010 110 Ultra. More power is a given but don't want to loose any bottom end. Just want to gain everywhere. I rarely spit it up close to red line. Love to short shift and gt on it hard to feel the pull. Any suggestions would be great.

I just got my 2012 CVO Ultra 10 days ago, and I basically have the same request as you for more power throughout, but without compromising the all important low end power where the engine will spend most of it's cruising time.
I'm racking up the miles, with 700 on it right now, and will bring it to my builder this weekend for the engine mods. So far the plan is to slightly port the heads and mill to get 10:1 compression, Fullsac Header X pipe with HD fatshotzs mufflers, K&N air filter, as for the cam my builder recommends to go with the WOODS T5-6 as a good combo for the 110.
I will also have before and after Dyno tests, and I will post the results of this build when done.

Hey there nice 2012, Forget about the K&N filter. What you want is a Doherty Power Pack. Same price and a very high quality billet item. Has a velocity stack, and guarantee to work!!! Check out my install. Made a huge difference with out tuning the bike yet. I can imagine how nice my 110 will feel after the Dino. Cheers.

There are numerous threads regarding 110 cams.  Just use the search functionality.  That being said, a lot of us are running the feuling 574 cams since they are a bolt in cam with good power throughout the rpm range...

I am just adding another pick of my filter for all of you to check out.    Comes with a nice hi flow filter and all the accoutrement's. You can use your original filter cover as well.  Also made the intake noise much more appealing. Now the noise sinks with the Rinehart's and is audible for a short time around 2000 to 3000 rpm. I love this filter.

See that is the problem I am having. There are so many different opinions as to what cams are the best for all around good behaviour. I want the biggest gains from 0 to 4000 rpm's, no extra valve train noise, and no extra vibes. ( if poss on all counts ) Screaming eagle 260? Andrews 54? Fueling 574? I don't know!!!

How about a weird looking dog?

I am going throught he same decision.....stuck between Andrews 54, Fueling 574 and Woods 555. Woods keeps pulling in higher RPM than the Andrews. Also heard some opinions on staying with the stock pushrods--more work on the install, but less valvetrain mass which usually means less noise.

Give Jim (HD-Dude) at Metal Dragon a call or PM. He should be able to give you pros and cons, etc.

Those are all good cams, I doubt if you would feel anything on your SOTP dyno.
Price can vary somewhat.
I like the idea of stock pushrods, as I had to pull my heads anyway for a gasket change.
JMHO

BTW: I have the 54's (I'm cheap) and they run great in my rpm range (1800-3500) and the load I'm carrying (towing)

Here's a dyno chart from 2011 CVO SG that came in my door last Thursday.  Customer had installed my Stage I X Pipe kit, 2.0 Power cores, and our standard base map, no tuning was done.
I did 10 dyno pulls to get a real baseline, intstalled Andrews 54s, Woods Lifters, stock pushrods, Cometic .030 head gaskets and dyno tuned. Very broad TQ curve crossing 100 FT pounds
at 2600 RPM with well over 10 HP peak gain. Absolutely no loss in bottom end power. The 54 Andrews continues to be a hard cam to beat for overall performance and drivability in a Touring Bike.

Here is my dyno.  Fullsac X pipe with 2" baffles with the Feuling 574's for comparison since the difference in configuration is only the cams.

No I didn't.  Stock head gaskets and adjustable push rods.  Heads have never been off of the bike.
