Too bad some don't know how to display it but the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier can handle those who fail.

That was just amazing, the way he came to Port Arms like that to "request" the proper silence and respect for our Unknowns who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Gave me goosebumps to see that honor like that still exists in this country...

That Guardsman did more than just make the request.  That duty path is a silent drill.  He did as he was trained.  Stepped off the duty path.  Made the verbal request.  Then moved back to the end of the duty path to begin again.  Otherwise the 21 step drill and  21 second pause could not have recommenced correctly.

There's a tremendous amount that goes in to both the preparation for and performance of that duty.  Literally hours of uniform and other prep.  They wear moistened gloves so the weapon stands less chance of slipping.  And the perform the duty routine flawlessly over and over and over again.

Make no misstake. That was not a "request". That was a polite way of saying STFU before I stomp a hole in your A. Nice job!  :2vrolijk_21:

The Guardsmen don't carry loaded rifles.  If anyone doubts or questions simply watch one of the no doubt hundreds of youtube videos that will be out there of the changing of the guard.  During the inspection part of the changeover ceremony the charging handle is pulled and nothing ejects.  Ever.

During the short cycles each Guardsman is on watch during the Cemetery's opening hours he's never truly alone though.  The NCO that performs the changeover inspection carries a sidearm also.  But if anyone truly got unruly at the Tomb they'd be detained and arrested.  Short of pulling a weapon themselves no one is getting shot or bayoneted there.

X2 AGREE!! Good to know he can maintain silence and respect from the visitors, even tho he should not have too. Always amazed at how stupid people are.
The Tomb of the Unknown is the most Sacred and Respectful place that my wife and I have ever visited. It was all I could do to keep from choking on the lump in my throat and drowning on the tears running down my face. Hopefully there were some American visitors that helped to guard "enforce" his request!

I visited the Tomb years ago and the guards seemed to make it a point to "Correct the observers." One yelled out for a mother to quiet her crying child or leave. About as crass as I wrote it. When he was relieved the next seemed to pick out some other noise to admonish.

Was only a couple of years out of the Corps and looked at it as the guard had gotten a big head.

Very respectful place.
