Neutral Switch
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:59:41 PM »

My 2011 FLTRUSE will only start in neutral. I tried to pull the clutch in if the bike is in gear, hit the starter--nothing! Shift into neutral bike fires right off. The switch under the clutch handle has been changed out once. I'm running a ThunderMax with Auto Tune ECM. Stealer said Tmax is totally incompatible with Harley Davidson, I will ruin my bike if I leave it on and that is the reason the clutch switch does not work. I put my stock ECM back on the bike, still won't start in gear with the clutch pulled in.
Any Ideas?!?!

Besides the fact that your dealer is full of chit and you should have already figured out it's time to find another shop?

I have to ask --- is the dealer Freedom or High Country?  I can't imagine Eloy, the service manager, at High Country saying this.  I remember Freedom giving you chit about your ECM and the heated grip issue and I thought High Country took care of that issue for you..

Yes, that was Freedom HD.
High Country HD replaced the heated seat no problem. Now I have the problem with being able to start the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in. As far as the TMax  and the way the bike runs I'm totally Happy!

You've written that the problem persists with two different ECMs though.  So you know the fault isn't in the ECM.  What's gained by letting the servicer continue to blow smoke up your jumper?

Most international models have a safety kill switch that prevents the bike from starting in any gear, just like the japanese bikes. It's possible that one got put in during assembly by mistake.

Go to High Country HD, I like them, have a friend that works there, they're pretty good. Never been to Freedom HD, but that sounds like a bunch of B.S., did they even look at the switch?
