Deal breaker for me was the paint.  I've got a '05 Wideglide with lots of upgrades, but I'd had the touring bike fever for a while.  When I saw the blue/blue 2011.5 SEEG, I flipped.  My rationale was keep the Wideglide for around town, and the SEEG for long trips.  Now, I find I ride the SEEG every day to/from work, and hardly ever ride the WG. I may sell the WG come spring.

This is a bit confusing.  They made the SEEG for only two years....04 and 05.  I suspect that you're talking about SEUC?

JCZ,
You are correct, SEUC, not SEEG.

Jeepaholic,

Alright, here it is, the Push Over the edge.....

The engineering difference can SAVE YOUR LIFE....

The new Touring frame of the new Ultras since 2009, handles a lot better in a pinch WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT..
Also, since 2009 or so, they have ABS BRAKES, and again, in a pinch it will pull you up better WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT..

Besides, you get all the latest mod cons that are ALL BETTER... And these goodies keep you fresher, more alert, and you have less battle fatigue when on a long haul and you are tired.. And it makes a difference WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT...

Best of luck with your decision, from Australia, on BIG BLUE 2011.5 CVO Ultra, Cowboy

Walked away from the silver CVO ultra in '09 for the same reason---sticker shock. Second chance in Nov'09 on a used one. Made the deal, just couldn't sign on the dotted line. Bought a '10 limited and have done it really nice. However, I've come across two silver '09 SEUC. I'm now trapped because of the inability to regain some of my investment. The SEUC's have really held their value, though. No complaints, but if the bike is "the one" you should know it by now. If it's something your going to be thinking about two years from now, and you can swing it financially, then just do it. I'd probably be better off if I just took the 8 X 10 photo of the '09 at my desk down. I do have a damn nice limited,  however.          JoeS

Had back surgery this past June. During my "Post Surgical Depression" I went to a Harley dealership and when I saw the 2011.5 SEUC I told my wife I would trade in the 2 we had for that without hesitation. Wife said go ahead so once I found a dealer that would give me a fair trade in for 2 bikes and not charge me over MSRP for the new one I went for it.

I still can't believe I paid that much for a bike!

I looked at the SEUC's for years trying to justify the expense - once I laid my eyes on the 2012 in person (the pictures just didn't do it justice) I had to have it - negotiated a great deal and traded in my 2000 Road King that day!  All the stuff included with the package sure didn't hurt...!  No regrets! :)

What was you deciding factor that got you to pony up the cash???

I wanted it and didn't care what it cost. BTW...everytime I get on it the smile it gives me is worth every one of the 36,000,000 pennies I spent on it. ;)

:jack: Yea, boy am I bummed out...
I am feeling a bit down.. For as good as it is,  :2vrolijk_21: I didn't pay nearly enough for BIG BLUE  :freak:

So I am going to fix it now, it is going back into the Shop on Monday, for more chrome, LEDs, chrome inner primary and engine bolt and tranny bolt sets, and more...

As good as this 2011.5 is, 9000 kms now in four months, I figure as far as life goes, IT IS CHEAP, it is just that good..!   :bananarock:

For any of you that can still fall in LOVE... THIS IS IT!!   :sweetheart:

Course what would I know, 60 years old next year, 8th Harley in 40 years, and heavily medicated for your mental sanity.. Heh he

Money well spent. I had a 2007 Street Glide that I was turning into a SE Ultra. Added everything from tour pack to lower faring. Motor work and tons of chrome. My New 2012 SE Ultra cost less than I had in my old bike. Plus it has more on it. If you have the cash its worth it. As the guy said before you can't take it with you.

I guess... for myself as well as quite a few others.. the bike speaks to us... Buy what you want, because you want to and because you want to ride it.

I had owned my 2008 FLHX for 7 months when the '09s showed up on the website after the dealer show. I loved the unique 105th color scheme, and had made only basic changes... but the '09 SERG spoke to me... I looked at the 3 colors (O/B), (Y/G), (S/T) and the silver bit me HARD.... called the dealer and dropped a deposit... sight unseen.

Too bad we are in a captive market here... It took 6 months to get the damnned thing here. I was all smiles when it came out of the crate... (I got to do that too)

Would I trade it for anything else?... NOPE... If it speaks to you and says "buy me damnnit" then do it!

You're trying to be logical/rational about a bike purchase...that in itself is not logical   :huepfenlol2:  IMO, purchasing a bike is more of an emotional thing...the bike either "speaks" to you, or it doesn't.  36+K is a rediculous amount of money to spend on a motorcycle, but you only live once (that I know about), and there are worse things to throw money away on.  Buying a "regular" (non CVO) HD and putting 8K worth of "stuff" on it is, in the long run, worse than going ahead and coughing up the bucks for what you really want in the first place.  You'll never even come close to getting what you've invested in the "regular" model because it'll always be a "regular" HD with regards to book value, regardless of what you've done to customize it to your liking.  I learned a long time ago to go on and get what I really wanted, if I could afford to do so, instead of trying to settle and not be 100% satisfied...it always cost me more in the long run to "settle".  That has been true for all things I don't really NEED, just WANT...cameras, backpacking gear, skiing stuff, fishing equipment, etc.  I can make do with a lesser car/truck because the "fun factor" wears off quickly, but a motorcycle is fun every time I get on it.  That's my opinion, anyway...or my rationalization.

Well said!!
