push me over
« on: November 27, 2011, 12:00:03 AM »

So I have a 2006 ultra now. i took a new 2012 cvo ultra out for a scoot. I really liked it as if there is nothing to dislike about it.
OK the price is what I do not like got the stealership down to the 36 and change. But I just can't get past the sticker shock.
What was you deciding factor that got you to pony up the cash??? Thank hope this was posted in the right place..

I had a 2003 Ultra that I sold after buying my 11 CVO Ultra. My rationale was that if I bought a new limited and did all the work to it to make it like a CVO I would probably end up with more in the Limited.  Plus, my wife and I both loved the colors, which is pretty rare. No regrets.

Yep, same here.  2005 Ultra that I've spent enough I should have got the CVO in the first place.

This time I bought a 2011 CVO Street Glide.  It's what I wanted to turn my Ultra into but didnt want to keep throwing more cash at a 6 year old bike with 129k on the clock.

Styling and color were my downfall.  Sticker shock, oh yeah.  New bike fever, yeah I had that too.

Just have to keep looking. In early 2010 I bought a '09 Blue & Silver with 400mi for 28K. Though that was a pretty good deal.

That Hammock seat is so comfy, I had sore butt on my 03 Heritage after one hour but now I can go 3 to 4 hours on it before...stopping for gas.
I'm away on Vacation right now, but I brought the supplied Ipod and GPS that came with the Ultra with me.
Lying on the beach, I can say that little HD Ipod sounds way better than my wife's Nano model !

Deal breaker for me was the paint.  I have a '05 Wideglide with lots of upgrades, but I'd had the touring bike fever for a while.  When I saw the blue/blue 2011.5 SEEG, I flipped.  My rationale was keep the Wideglide for around town, and the SEEG for long trips.  Now, I find I ride the SEEG every day to/from work, and hardly ever ride the WG. I may sell the WG come spring.

I went to have new tires installed on my '10 FLHX and have the compensator sprocket checked for replacement under warranty.  Then I made the fatal mistake and went out in the showroom to look at the bikes.   There it sat...a beautiful 2012 Electric Orange/Black Diamond FLHTCUSE7 on the dealerships showstand.  Spent the entire day looking, negotiating, looking, negotiating, thinking, negotiating...it went home with me that night.  More than I ever thought I'd ever spend for an H-D...so why not...it was also my birthday.  Happy Birthday Me...

hey jeepaholic...it looks even better when parked next to the Rubicon.  Good luck and hope you get what you're looking for.

Well I took a black flhx and made list of wants and needs for bike cost and labor close to screamin eagle uc .Then insurance cost for options above regular SEUC and trade in value (not plans of selling bike but just in case) made SEUC well worth sticker shock. SMILE EVERY TIME I RIDE NEW BIKE PRICELESS

This is a bit confusing.  They made the SEEG for only two years....04 and 05.  I suspect that you're talking about SEUC? :nixweiss:

The Rubicon is right up the road from us.....45 min. up the hill.  We ride Wentworth Springs Rd. from time to time but we stay on the asphalt. ;)

You're trying to be logical/rational about a bike purchase...that in itself is not logical   :huepfenlol2:  IMO, purchasing a bike is more of an emotional thing...the bike either "speaks" to you, or it doesn't.  36+K is a rediculous amount of money to spend on a motorcycle, but you only live once (that I know about), and there are worse things to throw money away on.  Buying a "regular" (non CVO) HD and putting 8K worth of "stuff" on it is, in the long run, worse than going ahead and coughing up the bucks for what you really want in the first place.  You'll never even come close to getting what you've invested in the "regular" model because it'll always be a "regular" HD with regards to book value, regardless of what you've done to customize it to your liking.  I learned a long time ago to go on and get what I really wanted, if I could afford to do so, instead of trying to settle and not be 100% satisfied...it always cost me more in the long run to "settle".  That has been true for all things I don't really NEED, just WANT...cameras, backpacking gear, skiing stuff, fishing equipment, etc.  I can make do with a lesser car/truck because the "fun factor" wears off quickly, but a motorcycle is fun every time I get on it.  That's my opinion, anyway...or my rationalization.

Jeepaholic, TC said it well and I agree with him 100%. Besides it's only money...you can't take it with you!

I posted the process I went through getting my 12 Ultra Yellow Jacket. I was perfectly satisfied with my 05 SEEG. What I did want was the frame change, antilock brakes, and the other goodies that came on the 12 Ultra. Being on the fence I brought it to the site for opinions and I got some real good ones. The fact of the matter was it was up to me. After much prayer I had peace to go with the 12 and I couldn't be happier! :D I will be praying for you to have peace in what ever you decide to do! :2vrolijk_21:

You put it perfectly Terry. I totally agree with every word you stated.  Once you have a Cvo it's really hard to go back.  :2vrolijk_21:
