Kuryakyn LED Passing Lamp problem
« on: November 27, 2011, 06:32:00 PM »

Problem installing the Kury LED passing lamps in my new CUSE7.  Their p/n KU2262 (actually made by Truck-Lite but sold by Kury).  So I cannot get the trim ring (H-D calls it the 'door' in the service manual) to seat properly with the Kurys.  It is like they are too thick and the trim ring will not go back far enough to lock into the grove in the lamp housing.

I have the same Kurys on my '07 CUSE7 but on that bike I also have the H-D visor style trim rings (69732-05) and they are deeper than the stock rings.

I double checked the service manual and I am installing everything correctly.   :nixweiss:

Have you checked the following:
1. "square bump" on lamp is aligned with notch on the internal ring?
2. Tongue on internal ring is catching notch at bottom of the spot housing?
3. Foam isn't all bunched up inside trim ring?

Sorry if these are obvious, but those are the only things I can think of that would cause issues.

When I did mine, I had to seat the lamp in the trim ring first, and then insert the whole assembly into the housing. Tweaking the alignment as I went.

Good luck.

Yeah, thanks.  Did check all that and confirmed it with the service manual.  There is no foam on the stock set-up.  Are you using different trim rings other than stock?  Like I said the lights fit fine on my '07 with the visor trim rings (which have foam).  But on the '12 with the stock trim rings - no go.

They were pretty tight for me, but just took my time and they finally caught and once I tightened them down they were fine.

Thanks for the info.  I just cannot seem to get the trim rings far enough on the housing to catch and hold.  The LED bulb is noticeable thicker than the stock one.  Since it fits fine with the visor style trim rings I may just get a set of those.  They look good anyway.   ;D

I spoke to a very knowledgeable person at Kuryakyn who said he has installed several sets of these.  He verified that with the stock trim ring the fit is very tight and he recommends having a second person assist.  I have been doing it solo and simply cannot get the trim ring to seat on the housing.

Visors are a visual improvement (to my eyes).  If that makes it simpler seems like a good enough reason to add them also.

I agree Don - and that is exactly what I will do.   :2vrolijk_21:
