Looking at Buying a 2004 FLHTCSE
« on: June 29, 2006, 06:43:50 PM »

I'm looking at buying a 2004 FLHTCSE. After doing some internet research I noticed that all the reviews, etc for this motorcycle show it without a tour pak. Is the tour pak an option on this motorcycle? Any known problems with this motorcycle?

Tourpak is an option. You may want to read some of the threads in this section (FLHTCSE/FLHTCSE 2 Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide) for some of the inherent problems that these bikes have. I own a FLHTCSE and would buy it again.

Boiler, welcome to the site!  Fired00d covered the tour-pak question.  Chrome issues are the single largest common problem area on the 2004s.  This thread:http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1097891244;start=all has a lot of twists and turns in it, and is not specific to just the '04s, but I think it touches on most of the other flaws of these bikes, including chitty rear suspension, lousy stock speakers, and useless (to most) stock seat.

But, overall, the reports from the owners of these bikes are glowing.  I still like mine as much now as the day I bought it, which will be three years ago already this October. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The peeling chrome issues really throughout the bike were indeed a major issue for the 04 bikes.  Would disagree with Brian, however, that this was the worst issue.  After seeing many they almost universally seem to suffer an even more common and significant failing.  They're just not nearly as good looking as the 05 red bikes !!  ;D [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif] ;D

I have replaced all three in my 06 FLHTCUSE. Could it be an ongoing MOCO problem and their !**! designs??? [smiley=soapbox.gif]

Boiler, welcome to the site! My husband has the 04 BnB bike and loves it. In fact he loved it so much that he wanted me to have a bike as good as his, so he bought me the 05 TTCherry.  Even with the few chrome problems that plagued the bike, it is a great bike to ride.  As bigmanken states, the suspension, speakers and seat should not be enough to scare you off. Actually for my husband and myself, we only replaced two, the speakers and the seat.  So, each of us who own these bikes, really like them, despite the few problems.  They are not insurmountable.  And if you buy this bike, you can ride it to Maggie Valley this fall and  [smiley=drink.gif] meet all of us great folks.   ;D

I'd buy my blue and black again! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]   One of the things that I like best.......is when I'm in a group of SEEGs (reds, yellows, teal, etc.) and a group of bikes roll in and they all walk over and start commenting on the SEEGs and they all say "I like the blue and black the best".  Colorado was good! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

By the way, we just completed and ocean to ocean ride on two lane roads and two lane highways and two of the guys did it on stock SEEG seats.  There report is that the seats weren't that bad.  Much like the Corbin.......the firmer seat is better for the long hauls.

I think the Blue and Black is great if you can't step up to REAL HARLEY COLORS......

Roger, that!  The Orange Blossom Special has no peers with regard to color.

I had '04 orange & black for year and half and when i sold (last november) had 25K miles.
First Highlight: My front wheel had to be replaced due chrome peeling
Second highlight:  The shocks collapsed at 20K
Third Highlight: I change the seat after the first 50 miles...USELESS >:(

BUT IT WAS A GREAT BIKE...I STILL MISS HER [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
