Replacement Wheels finally in
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:06:29 PM »

Well guys after many almosts and too many weeks of wheels going obsolete / pending / obsolete / pending, they say our replacement rims for the 04 pumpkin are actually in ... long time to wait ...   The bike goes in Wednesday for them to be installed, I surely hope the chrome is better than the original ... Also having the King Tour Pack / Quick Release installed while its there.  I would normally have done it myself, but this time I will just bite the 2 hour bullet as I am not quite ready physically to tackle that one.

Is there any one else still going through this as I was told the rims when pending obsolete again?  5 months is way to long in my opinion ...

Harry,
I am waiting on replacement rims for my  [smiley=pumpkin.gif] but I went with thunderstar rims rather than take a chance on detonators peeling again and not getting covered 2nd time around.I have been waiting about a month now. How's things going with your recovery?

Good news Harry, Jamey got his wheels replaced, also with the chrome thunderstars.  They look great.  Seems that the original wheels just have not stood up for anyone we know.  Glad to hear you are feeling well enough to keep modifying the pumpkin.  Hope the healing is on track.   :)

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but just ordered out a new Thunderstar front.  It's been on about a year....chrome peeling on the leading edge of one of the spokes....  At some point, HD is going to have to get the inferior chrome issue under control.  Just doesn't seem to be rocket science to contract a supplier that can produce quality such as that of PM.  My guess is "cheap" has something to do with the problem.

I stopped having wheels chromed some years ago.  The plating shops could not count on a proper bond with the "alloy" mixture the wheel manufacturers were using.  Inevitably at some point, nearly every wheel had issues with the process and began to peel.

Now if a customer insists we get a release.  HD should come up with a process that works or figure out a process other than chroming.  It is ridiculous to have to go through this.

Good news is the wheels are on the bike, bad news is there is a horrid shake in the bike from 55 up to 65 if you dare take it that far :(

Called the dealer they are suppsoed to be picking it up.   I figure they didnt balance the wheels right if at all i need to check to see if there are any wheel weights on them ... i wrote this before looking (bad me) .... but we shall see.

Candy the healing has been stiffled a bit they just found out that i have bersitus in the left knee and that is why i cant put weight on the leg real well.   /sigh ...  but all in all things are progressing there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Since not much gets by you guys, I am publically denying everything :)   I am walking with a cane as I just graduated from the walker even though when really wore out I still use it and the wheel chair.  Its still very painful and I have found its better living through pharmecuticals, but if the bersa eases up behind the knee cap it will make the process a whole lot faster and a bit less painful.  Took 12 weeks to find out the bersitis (sp?) was the cause and not a healing or implant issue.

Why i guess is a good question, and the answer is I wanted to at least take a ride to get the fear / stigmas out of my head / system.   its about an 8 mile jaunt to the Seminole Harley Dealer here where I live.   My wife drove the car right behind me to be sure if anything went awry that someone was there.   It will be a while before I actually try again to ride, but I had to get over the hurdle.   While some may think its a bit crazy, stupid, ballsy whatever, its just what I felt I needed to do for me to move on.

So indeed you both read it and caught it subtle as it was.

best regards,

-harry

Guys is this an issue just on the 04's or is this an inherent problem on ALL the CVO chrome wheels ... and if so has Harley agreed to replace the wheels with the problem ... I have just purchased a 03 RKSE so any info would be appreciated..

Bama;
The 04's especially had major problems with chrome on the wheels. I know of only a couple 05's with problems and have not heard of any 03's.
