2012 HD bag speakers on 2011
« on: December 15, 2011, 08:58:52 AM »

I've got some gift cards to burn.  Does anyone know exactly what needs to be bought to do this since the catalogue says its not compatible.  I was going to buy the lids and what ever else I would need. Any help is appreciated!

I saw a dealer install them on a 2011 and they had charged $2100 complete. Need lots of gift cards for that! Dealer was Hannum's HD in Media Pa.

You could have a kickn sound system put in your car for that money.

Agree on your comment. The lids where new and painted to match the paint. Additional amp added plus they need to run all new wiring to them. Still a lot of scratch for what you get!

The gift cards aren't free either.......you pay for those through mark up or some other way.  A dealership doesn't "GIVE AWAY" anything for free!

Geez i don't think aftermarket speakers, amp, and wiring would cost that much. Plus if you went that route and were to DIY most of it, you would have a way better sounding system than that factory Harley junk.

Do you have a new SESG3 or have you listened to the sound system on it?  It actually sounds really good.  When sitting still, the bags have a nice bass "thump" to them and with 400 watts pushing all those speakers, it really rocks.  I see no reason to change any of the Boom Audio speakers on my SESG3 for any others.  The Boom Audio system was a good move for the MoCo.

On the 12's , you are probably right about sounding really good and not needing to change. But if you had an '11 and were one of the dozens on here that had amp problems, you may consider the change, or keep waiting on a moco fix.. Six months to a year on some and no fix. and that is only the ones that posted on here..Sounds like they got it right on the FLHXSE3, missed it badly on the "2"s. Hope none of you guys have that sick feeling when one side starts going out..

For information purposes, these are the installation instructions for the HD saddlebage speaker kit:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J05386.pdf

Using this kit, and accessing the rear speaker pin-outs of the HK radio to conform to the 2 ohm speakers in the kit, will work.  The rear speaker pin-outs and accessing them is explained in this thread:

http://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/618128-how-to-access-rear-speaker-pin-outs-on-the-harman-kardon-head-unit.html

Another alternative is to replicate the 2012 CVO SG on the 2011 CVO SG using the same amp and saddlebag speakers used on the 2012.  The parts can be identified from the HD accessory that replicates the 2012 CVO SG system, buying only the items you need.  Here are the installation instructions and parts:
