Downtown Memphis to Oxford MS for Lunch
« on: December 17, 2011, 08:31:24 PM »

Not a special ride just a special day with my buddy Ultrafxr (Jerry) and his sweet bride J Carolyn. Got a call Thursday from Jerry asking if I want to ride down to Oxford MS for lunch on Saturday. Sounded like a plan. Weather forcast was sunny and high 40's. Was going to meet him at Bumpus in Collierville where I live at 10am. Woke up at 4am, made some coffee then came on this site. Saw it was 26 degrees outside and when I went out to get the paper I saw frost on the trucks. Then I got a bright idea... figured I would ride downtown and get some pics of my scoot at sunrise while waiting on 10:00 to get here.

Had to watch for ice on overpasses as the weatherman said there is freezing fog! Freezing Fog??? Been in Memphis 31 yrs and that's the 1st time I heard them say that! :nixweiss: Anyway, it was a nice ride Downtown and just as I got there the Sun was waking up. Started a Beale Street and saw some of the homeless going through the garbage cans and picking up cigarette butts as it was getting daylight. From there I went around the corner to the Fed EX Forum Where the Memphis Grizzlies and Tigers play ball. From There I went by Peabody Place Mall then by the Pyramid on the way to Harbortown. Took some pictures on the river and I40 bridge then went over to Danny Thomas St Jude Hospital. Snapped a few pics there then headed back to Riverside drive where I took some pics at the Fireman Museum, River Boat rides and I55 Bridge.

Drove back to Collierville and went by Bumpus and they were not quite open yet so I went to the square in Collierville and snapped a few pics and by then Bumpus was open. Had some coffee while waiting on Jerry and J Carolyn to arrive. Once they showed up we took off on some back roads heading to Oxford MS. Wonderful ride and ended up at Phillips Grocery right at lunch time. Met some other Memphis riders on their BMW's. After lunch we rode back to Bumpus in Collierville and visited a while longer then I headed to the house. I ended up with 250 miles and it warmed up to 48 degrees by the afternoon. Sunny day and not a cloud in the sky. What a Blessed day we had...hope you did too! :2vrolijk_21:  Warning...the following pictures expose a lot of yellow and black! :D

My eyes are burning from all the "yellow". Just kidding JR those are some great pics. Earlier this year when we were there it was a little more crowded. Two questions. What exactly is the pryamid, office building, hotel? Was there something special at your lunch destination?

I put a Warning in the 1st post on the Yellow! :huepfenlol2: Pyramid use to be like the Fed Ex Forum. It was where basketball games, tournaments and concerts were played before the forum was built. Now Bass Pro has bought it and is in the process of becoming "THE" Bass Pro store of the midsouth! :D Lunch destination was just an excuse to ride. It was in Oxford MS which is where Ol Miss University is at. It's a nice ride and nice litlle town to eat lunch in! ;D :2vrolijk_21:

Nice report JR. Great photos! Bike looks great. Thanks for sharing. For those of us who have bikes under covers in the garage for the next few months, it is great to see others our riding!
