Black vs. Chrome
« on: December 22, 2011, 07:55:40 AM »

I'm leaning towards V&H Power Duals and mufflers for Rio. I have a 2011 catalog that shows this setup on a 2011 CVO RG in both matte black and chrome. I've always been a fan of lots of chrome...but I gotta admit the black header and mufflers look awesome in the pics. Give me some advice...or bettter yet...post some pics.

Still deciding............ :-\

Black would look good on that bike except near the engine.

If all you care about is initial appearance, yes the black looks nice on certain bikes.  But before making that decision you might want to see if you can find some examples with some time and miles on them and compare the durability of that black versus good chrome parts.

I like a balance between chrome and paint, not to sure I like the all black on the full length duals. Here's a picture from the J&P catalog of a SG with the black.

Jerry,

where did you see pics with black exhaust.  Damn, I was all set to go with black head pipes and mufflers then I got thrifty and kept the Fullsac set up in chrome that came with the bike when i bought it.   Now you got me thinking again after I settled in.  Please post any pictures that you have.  I couldn't find any and thats what kept me from giving it a shot!  I was going to buy black heat shields for my Fullsac X pipe and get either the V&H high outputs, or Klockwerks in black with chrome tips.

I have a V&H 2011 catalog that has the CVO RG in Rio Red/Black Ember with a couple of different exhausts. Just so happens they got a pic with the black Power Duals and Hi Output mufflers. Just kinda caught my eye. Considering our bikes have black on the bottom of the saddle bags the mufflers blend in nice. Would love to see 'em in person before pulling the trigger....... :-\

i would be happy with a good picture.  I agree, it should look good with the black accents, plus the bike has a ton of bling as it is?

Jerry... I googled the catalog because I was curious and saw the picture.  I'm thinking I'm happy with my choice staying with chrome.  I think I would have to see the bike in person, or pictures taken with a camera to really make a decsion.  But the expense and the unknown is why I stuck with what I had.  If you decide to go that route, please post some good pictures.  Also, there was a guy (G52) that had black heat shields for $160 shipped.  I was considering those for my Fullsac head pipe, and then the black V&H High Outputs or maybe the Klockwerks WFB.

I installed the SE black headpipe covers for FLH. In addiotion I wanted black CVO mufflers w/ the Fullsac baffles. Here is what I did: Had a local plating shop remove the chrome from the end tips and muffler heatshields and had them painted gloss black by an automotive shop. Works perfect.  Immaculate scam, but it looks like all black mufflers. And still no damage to paint from heat.

The black SE header shields add a bit of contrast as they are matt black.  Asked the painter if he thought a gloss black paint layer on header shields would stand up to the heat, but he said nope.
