What's required to be done to swap a speedo from Mph to Kph?
« on: December 23, 2011, 10:45:32 PM »

......as I await the arrival of my new ride. Is it a simple swap of the speedo gauge to go from the Mph gauge to the Kph gauge. Is it plug and play?

Cheers

Yes it is BUT you cannot adjust the digital milage/kilometers on the new gauge. So it will display all 000000. I would record the actual miles on the original gauge then you can keep track of the total km of the bike. I THINK you also have to put a sticker near the VIN saying that the gauge has been replaced.

A lot will depend on which new instrument you get.  Many, but not all, of the pieces available now will allow the end user to set the mileage in the new instrument within a relatively short predefined distance.

Is it a MOT requirement to have the speedo in kph?  Ask someone besides Canadian Tire and your HD dealer.

I think you can get stick on numbers. After the inspection peel them off. There are a lot of Harley here with MPH speedos.

Very simple to do.Replaced my mph speedometer with a tach, kph, mph, unit
from harley.Simply remove old one as per instructions, install new one and reconnect harness.
Ecm stores total mileage so had new unit programmed to match. Can now switch from kms to mph at the push of a button.works great so far.09 FXSTSSE3..

I've always been surprised that Canadian bikes don't get the UK spec Speedo - it has both mph and kph markings, and holding the odometer button in changes the odometer readings between the two.
