Options for getting rid of Heat??
« on: December 28, 2011, 01:03:53 PM »

I own a '10 Ultra with Fullsac Stage I.  On really hot days with lowers on my wife still burns up.  I realize I can take the lowers off and have done that in the past but would like to keep them on if possible.  Any other suggestions?

These things are just hot period.

Some have left the lowers on and removed the adjustable lower vents from them.

You can take off the plastic midframe deflectors and put on the RJ leather ones.

Some say it is cooler without the midframe deflectors.

You can also buy the 1" extensions to move the passenger floorboards away from the bikt an inch or so.

Some say a better tune will do.

Good luck.

Yeah, tell her to suck it up and quit complaining. :P (Like that would work with my wife).  Seriously, there's not much more you can do, other than make sure your AFR is down to around 13.7, vice 14.7, so it's not running so lean.

You can change out the header pipe for the new VH power chamber header, no cat in the VH

If he's got the Fullsac Stage I, he's already got a catless header...

To the original poster...I'm not sure that removing the lowers is going to help your wife out with the heat.  I'd try removing the heat shields first to see if that helps.  Big motors=big heat.

Short of completely removing the lowers the only thing I've found is removing the lower doors. This seems to work pretty good up until about 75 degrees after that the lowers come off.

Also, I've gone back and forth of the seat frame deflector (you know, that black plastic thing under the seat). If it's on then with the lowers on or off the heat is on my thighs. If it's off with the lower doors off then the heat if on the rider feet. If it's off with the lowers off the heat is significantly diminished for myself and the rider.

Early to mid spring lower doors off.

Mid spring to early fall lowers off.

Early fall to late fall lower doors off.

Late fall to early spring full lowers on.

It's really unfortunate to have to do this but fortunately it's easy to do.

Couldn't agree more!  The faster you go, the less heat  :sauer052:

As a BSR I know what she is feeling. Terry has tried everything for me just short of a/c... Floorboard extensions  :2vrolijk_21:  On trips the lower doors come off...that really helps my right foot from burning up.   :2vrolijk_21:  I also wear boots with Thinsulate year round and good socks that wick.
I can say the new motor is not as hot as the 110...but still puts heat out. The best cure is wide open roads  :bananarock:
Good Luck
