120R engine for new Street Glide
« on: January 01, 2012, 10:21:02 AM »

I am about to purchase a 2012 Street Glide.  I have been reading alot on these sites.  Is the 120R an engine that is ordered through my dealership?  Is it a JIMS motor?  JIMS has a bad rep...or is the bad rep just for it's 131 motor?  Would someone out there educate me?  Thanks...

The 120R is an engine from Harley.  It is not a Jim's product.  Jim's products and Jim's product support both have what seem a well deserved bad rep.  The early reports on the 120R have been surprisingly good.

Yes the 120R must be ordered through a dealer. It is not a JIMS engine.

Most are showing 130/130 out of the box. With the proper t/b, exhaust and tune.

Thank you for your input about this... does it come with the throttle body/fuel injection setup or is not, is there a recommended TB?  Is a dealer capable of doing the tune, or should I send it out for tuning and setup?

It does not come with any kind of induction.  Most are using the 58mm SE t/b and they seem to be doing the job.  Another option would be something from HPI.  Not sure which dealer your using but I wouldn't let any of the dealers close to me touch one.

No t/body, roller rockers, or enhanced clutch, and the 266 cam needs a tick more compression as well. :)

In May I attended and SE Seminar at one of my local HD Dealers. Tony Nicosia mentioned that is what hea has on his 140 hp Street Glide.
May not like the looks, but I suspect it performs very well.

Also Tony mentioned that 120Rs have no warranty. recently I heard of a local Dealer that did provide 1 yr warranty. Maybe something to ask about???

Are you guys sure that Jims had nothing to do with the 120r motor. because Jims manufactures a lot of parts for MOCO and the SE program still. and it looks almost identical except for the badging. and yes a friend of mine put one in and its bee a great touring motor. we still think that the dealership put to small a t body on it we think a 55 or bigger t body  but it has a 50 on it now.

I agree with you. When I went to a SE Seminar with Tony Nicosia, pretty sure that is what he said he had on his Street Glide.

No,, the Harley 120R is NOT a Jim's branded Motor.  Jim's engine cases, barrels, heads and gaskets are propertory to Jims only, meaning a Jim's buyer is stuck with their junk for life, unless you choose to use one of their chit motors for target practice.  :P.  The Harley 120R is completly interchangeable with off the shelf bolt ons and the best way to go...

Think of a Jim's motor as this. Shi@ Motor Is Junk.
