I have a feeling we will soon see record highs in gas prices. Things in the middle east are going to 'explode' soon....

I've heard the U.S. has enough reserves for the next 2400 years, that should give enough time to go green,solar,etc...

In 2009 and 2010 US usage was just shy of 7 billion barrels (just shy of 20 million barrels per day).  Proven US reserves are slightly more than 20 billion barrels.  "Technically recoverable" undiscovered reserves with known technology are estimated at around 135 billion barrels (DoE, DoI and USGS).  MMS says outer continental shelf might add another approximately 85 billion barrels recoverable.  So even optimistic totals may get you to around 220 bb.  Or about thirty years at current consumption.  And much of that 220 bb takes recovery efforts we don't/can't do yet.

Only way one might see the dramatic numbers suggested is if new tech to make shale oil recoverable were developed.  Except that's not really oil (kerogen).  At least not yet.  BLM says that might be some 2 trillion barrels.  But that's totally pie in the sky right now.

So we suck other countries dry, then come back to our reserves and expect no one will be banging down our back yard to get to this precious gold stock mine.  I certainly hope we have better defense systems then remote control toys protecting the worlds last drop of black gold..... Yikes,,,,that's going to be hell

I'm thinking whoever comes up with the next energy source will rule the world and we will be stuck with a lot of black gooey stuff. It all started when the Vikings harnessed the wind for their sailing ships.

Yup, I'm investing in dilithium crystals myself.  If they were good enough for Scotty and Capt. Kirk, they should be good enough for the rest of us.

Less use means less tax revenue, means less $ to the oil companies, means raise the taxes and fuel prices.   :(
