FLHXSE2 Adjustable Shock
« on: January 09, 2012, 04:13:34 PM »

Does anyone have any experience with these shocks? I was reading the users manual and there does not appear to have enough adjustment in them for larger size riders. For example I weigh 250 lbs. if I carry a passanger and luggage of 150 lbs or more I am maxed out with a gross weight of 400 lbs and there are no more adjustments to make. It just does not seem correct to me.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

You probably know the SESG2 weighs 852lbs stock (before accessories).  The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is 1360 lbs.  See here:  TotalMotorcycle.com  The balance is (doing the math) 508 lbs.  So it's not surprising that you're running out of adjustment.  If the maximum adjustment is not working for you and you're bottoming out, you may want to consider a heavy duty shock from Suspension Technologies, Progressive or another aftermarket vender.  Don't forget tire pressure!!  Good luck.

I ran into the same problem, I had a set of Progressive 940's sitting on the shelf, so I put them on. In my opinion the stock shocks are much better on smaller hits than the 940's. I would actually say the stock shocks are better all around, except that they max out on ajustment like you said. I wonder if there is anyway to add a spacer to the right side shock (1/8" or something small)? I usually run 3-5 turns when running solo, if I could space the right shock so I ran the left one at 0 turns solo, it would give me that much more adjustment.... Just thinking out loud here....

You guys probably thought I was crazy by my last post, but I did it. I added 5/16" spacer to the right side shock. Not sure how much difference it will make, the right side shock is much thinner than the left side. I figure the left side is getting torqued down so much I didn't want to add a spacer to it. I am doing a 4-500 mile ride this weekend, will let you know how it is.
