Wind buffeting
« on: January 10, 2012, 04:25:30 PM »

It seems that my new CVO Ultra seems to buffet in the wind above 60 mph than my EG limited did. Is this due to the fact that the windshield is shorter on the CVO  ? The limited seemed more stable in a straight line. Would the larger windshield have made the bike more stable??

Yup!  now you ask the question, "what windshield would you recommend" and this thread will go 6 pages!  When you ask that question, include how tall you are becasue that makes all the difference in the world.  So I will start, I used a 12" dark tint windsplitter by Harley, on my 2010 cuse5.5 and it worked well for me plus it looked great.  I stand 5'7" no buffeting.  Good luck!

Yep, windshield.  I'm 6'1 and have a 9.5 smoke clearview.  Tall enough to see over but short enough to duck under if I hit bad weather.

I'm 6' and the 9 1/2 clearview worked best for me. We have a pile of other shields that didn't work as well. Others in your area might have extras for you to try out as well.

Also, make sure your neck bearings are greased. Many dealership set ups forget to grease. Makes a big difference.

Wasn't there a topic here about the seat/engine heat-shields maybe causing the buffeting?

I might as well toss in one more opinion.  I just bought a 9" Windvest dark smoke    They work the best and I've had almost all of them.  I have an 8" on my seeg and it works fantastic.    I sit a little higher up on the sesg3 so I went one inch taller.  Works great.  :2vrolijk_21:

I can tell that the new bike gets more wind and buffetting than the older seegs.  I'm not tally convinced its the windshield.   I think its the 6 gallon tank.  I even put a wind deflector down low under the triple tree. Maybe just have to get used to it.

Agree, finally had a chance to get a few miles in and quite a difference in wind buffering from my 00 Ultra. Not so much from the winshied but coming from underneath. I would feel it strong right along the tank but couldn't figure why with the batwing and lowers combo how the wind is coming up from that area.

I was just comparing the area that's between the front fender and the triple tree.  I have noticed that the open area is a lot larger. That's where there has to be a lot more wind coming up from. I put the air baffle under there, but it has only help very little.  By comparison, the ole seeg gets lots less wind.  :nixweiss:
