Used CVO's
« on: January 12, 2012, 09:40:53 AM »

Why does it take so long for dealers to sell used CVO's? I have been looking at couple of used cvo ultras for the past year. These are 2010 bikes. One local dealer has had a 2010 citrus orange one almost a year before it sold. I look at another one in sept and they still have it. Is there something wrong with the 2010's?

It's more likely that the problem is the :nervous: "Stealership's asking price" in most cases :nixweiss:

Market value isn't what the dealer (or many of us, for that matter) thinks it is.

Those that can afford the cost of a CVO that's only a year or two old can afford a new one.  Those that can't afford a new CVO can't afford a near new CVO, either.

Couple that with the fact that there are so many private party sales on used CVOs out there for less money.  It is what it is.....the MoCo and dealerships flooded the market with bikes in the past ten years and now their reaping the side effects of that greed. :nixweiss:

:nixweiss: Why not buy a bike from a brother on the site?  Best bet yet, you know that their an educated and passionate rider or they wouldn't be on a blog, plus you have a history!  I sold my 2010 to a member, he got a perfect bike at a good price, and I turned around and bought my current bike here and it was PERFECT!  Just sayin :nixweiss:

Local dealer wanted 23K for a 2005 FLHTCSE2 with 8,000 miles, I got mine from a private party for 18K with 5,000 miles. A dealer in central Calif. had about 35 bikes on the floor, 13 were used CVOs with inflated prices.

Im not ready to make a purchase just yet. I have an 2006 ultra that we ride now. I love the look and options you get with the cvo's. The ultra i have now we bought used 4 years ago and it has been a great bike. I guess the dealers have more incentive to sell new bikes then used. But you know they stole those used bikes from people when they traded. You would think they would cut you a deal.

Dealers are able to get more for a given bike for one very good reason, they have a much easier time getting financing for a prospective buyer. I sold my Night Train recently, via consignment at the local dealer and they got a lot more for it than I could have. I tried selling it myself for as low as $9500 on Craigslist, local ads and ebay with no takers. The dealer got $11500. I still got my $9500.

Talk is cheap, like me. The lower price was due to the long wait for you to figure what gold key fit what ( of many ) bike!

He did, but added some nice pieces before selling to me. I love the bike and the person I got it from...

It was a pretty sweet deal, either way!

I couldn't believe it took the original guy so long to sell it; it was practically new!

The 07 I picked up this past August, was at LAHD for 22,900.00 with 24,000 miles.  I thought that wasn't a bad price, even at a dealer.  Blue Book was around 25K.  This joker has no complaints... ;) But the wifey did ask why I way paying a new bike price for four-five year old MC...not a hard argument to overcome once I explained the difference.

Why does it take so long for dealers to sell used CVO's?

The problem is Harley Davidson Limiteds.
The typical Harley customer that wants a touring bike looks at an Ultra or Limited.
That customer knows about the Screamin Eagles and knows they have all the whistle and bells but struggles to pay $36K to $39K out the door.
Then they see that 2009 SEUC or the 2010 SEUC priced at $27K to $30K and reconsiders. But wait, I can buy that new Limited with almost everything (in their mind almost everything) that the Screamin Eagle has for $2K to $3K less and get a new bike. A new bike with a warranty So they buy the new Limited and spend money on upgrades and when done they are at the same price of the used Screamin Eagle. Then there's the 110 factor, buy a used out of warranty SE SEUC and not know the history or buy that new Limited with almost everything a Screamin Eagle has, easy decision, I'll take the bike with the warranty.
Remember above, I said TYPICAL, not us but the typical Harley customer looking for a touring bike.
2008/2009/2010 used Screamin Eagle touring bikes are a tough sale. (and yes the 2011's will be in the same boat later this year)
