V&H true duels vs 2-1
« on: January 12, 2012, 03:57:27 PM »

Have an '04 B/B seeg. At present I'm running v&h true dual exhaust with v&h touring slip ons.I was thinking of going to a 2-1 type exhaust (pro pipe, thunderheader, etc.) and was curious as to the power/torque/drivability difference. I also run a woods 575 cam. I'm dyno'd @ 99hp/103 tq.

If you want to go with a 2-1 you may want to consider the D&D Fatcat.... if I was to go to a 2-1 that would be the way I'd go.

Also consider the supertrapp supermeg 2-1. This pipe performs very well and is not loud. I had freedom duals (basically reinharts) and changed to this pipe. I picked up 15 ft lbs of torque between 2-4k rpm. This is on a 05 seeg with a yb13 cam.

I can't say enough good about the Supertrapp! Fantastic performance and sound.

Loud being a relative measure how is the Supermeg 2-1 compared to the quiet baffled Fatcat 2-1?

With an open end cap and 12 discs it is much quieter at idle and cruise but has a nice bark when you get on the throttle. The sound level is also tunable with different combinations of open and closed end caps and quantity of discs.

Thanks Jim.  The Fatcats on the red bike have end of like on their horizon.  Just wondering how the options compared.  Comparable performance?

While I do not have any dyno comparision to back it up I would think the D&D would beat the Supermeg for peak horse power numbers. I lost 6 peak horspower over the freedom duals when i did the change but gained 15 lbs of torque in the most used range (2-4K) . I will trade the 15 lbs of torque any day for 6 peak HP..... 8)

Nomad, you can't go wrong listening to hd-dude.  He's an HD ninja when it comes to modifying 110s.

That said, I saw and heard someone with a Bassani B4 2-1, and ended up getting one for my 2012 SG.  I'm lovin' it. My a$$ dyno feels a substantial improvement, it looks different than anything out there, and it isn't as loud as a Thunderheader or Pro pipe.  Still loud enough to wake up the neighbors, tho.

Just my 2 cents...

Absolutely.  People give me that "are you stupid" look when I say I could care less what the numbers say above 4500.  Don't really care about bouncing off the wall first.  Want to be able to bull it down when I get there.

Compared to the true duals I ran for years the Fatcats (expectedly) moved things to the left noticably.  That was even using the old White Brothers E Series slip ons that were the best for duals that I ever found.  Have become a real convert to the 2-1 now that have been using them for awhile.  It only took a month or so to get used to the look too.  And, of course, there's less stuff to clean!

If I were to go 2-1, I'd look at the Bassani Road Rage II or Drago's 2-1 before the D&D. I say that because I don't like the sound of the D&D, so I'd suggest you give them a listen first before you go and buy one. I think the 2 I mentioned will perform the same or better as the D&D, and the Drago's will save you a few bucks, and you'd be getting just as nice of a pipe.

Not sure if everybody has heard of Drago's, but Frank Drago and his shop are real popular over on the big HD forum. Everyone raves about the quality and performance of his exhausts.

He designed the pipes, and Rush manufactures them for him. The more popular one is called the Dragula. He offers a money back performance guarantee- if you dyno one of his 2-1's, then dyno the same bike on the same dyno within a week with another 2-1 that makes more power, he'll give you your money back.
